Re: total scum
I lived in Glasgow for three years.
I love the city, and it's people. The only downside was the sectarianism, practiced by both sides. Old Firm match days, this great city turns into Beiruit. That I don't miss. |

What is the reasoning behind it ? I get the gist but what is the story behind it ? Do you have some background info C'mon ?

The simple fact these creatures have obviously forgotten is, they are being allowed to display these sickening comments due in a great part to these Lads & Lasses who've given their lives to protect freedom & the right to free speech so imbeciles like these waving their mindless banners can do so. C'mon, we don't always see eye to eye on here but with this one, you took the words right out of my mouth, although there are plenty more I'd like to add. |

I remember going into a packed pub in Scotland during an Old Firm game on TV. Not a football jersey in sight! My Scottish pal told me the wearing of "colours" had long since been banned because they lead to too much trouble. |
Re: total scum
Not so much in the city cente or the westend, but drink anywhere else, and you'll be asked, sooner or later, 'Which side ya on, big man?'
Knowing full well they wanted to know if you were Celtic or Rangers, and therefore whether you were a proddy dog, or a papist devil, I'd usually answer 'Normally to the left, but it really depends on what I'm wearing'. It they persisted, I'd say 'Oh you mean which football team!' 'Queen of the South, actually.' :D |

On top of that they're also belittling the bravery, courage & steadfastness of many fine Scottish & Irish fighting men & regiments who've served with pride. loyalty & distinction in the past & in the present day regardless of their own personal religious views.

Re: total scum
Who cares about Scotland anyway? Along with the frogs they are Englands oldest enemies and despite 300 years of bailing them out they still winge. I notice on the telly today that that fat Sottish hypocrite Salmon was marching to save an RAF base; this is a guy who wants no truck with England and a UK. Pathetic.
Shut down the bases and move 'em to England, then give the Jocks their independence and then let 'em rot in hell. |

Thought the same. Might well have said that on the banners, but looks like it's been PhotoShopped. |
Re: total scum
Though you'd have thought if it had been doctored, they'd have corrected the spelling mistake.
'A banner which read: "Your deeds would shame all the devils in hell, Ireland Iraq Afghanistan No blodstained poppy on our hoops" was unveiled by a minority of fans.' Celtic apologise for poppy banner protest | Glasgow and West | STV News Blody idiots. |

Re: total scum
Even the foreign players, from Glasgow's main rival teams, hate each other.
Until my proper job started, I briefly worked for a jeweller's, looking after the celebrity clients. (Read foot players, crooks, and drug barons.) I can't remember their names. One played for Celtic, tall African, whose name sounded like Bilbo Baggins, and the other geezer was that long haired Italian, who later went down to play for Blackburn Rovers. They nearly ended up scrapping, when they both came in at the same time, for yet another diamond encrused Rolex. Then there was that daft apeth Gazza, who foolishly decided it would be a good idea to mime playing the Irish flute, after scoring a goal in his debut for Rangers. Football sends Weegies loopy. |

I was amued to see Salmon campaining against the closure of Lossiemouth & Kinloss - as already stated he wants to be totally independent of England - but he still wants our money. Let us rebuild and re-inforce the wall.:mosher: |

Re: total scum
A lot of the fans were not happy including some season ticket holders I know. The stewards seemed to have been powerless as well. Thing is there is a minority that think this kind of behavior is acceptable and will carry on doing these outrageous things. The club IMHO dosnt have a clue what to do about this element in the support nor any idea on how to prevent it. The statement is bum fluff as for decades it was only interested in players of the right religion though that is slowly changing. The idiots have gone too far this time and stained Scotland as well as the clubs reputation.

Re: total scum
I recently went on a 3 day trip to Belgium and France , visiting where my two great uncles are buried.
The most memorable part of the trip was at the Menin Gate in Ypres, where at 8pm every night of the year, 365 days, the traffic is stopped, and the local brass band play the Last Post. It is a ceremony that is stark in its simplicity, but yet one of the most haunting and moving sights I've ever seen in my life. The ceremony remembers the sacrifice made by the thousands of soldiers, English, Scottish, Irish and many other nationalities, who gave their lives so that we can live in freedom. It strikes me that one of the liberties that they were fighting for was freedom of speech - the very right that those football fans were using in displaying their posters at the Celtic match. Who was it who said that I disagree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it? The only crime they are guilty of is crass ignorance. |
