Beware the Flu jab

I've had the flue jab for years now and never even noticed it. Apparently it now has Swine Flu vaccine in it this year. Out of four of us who had it last week three of us have been quite ill! None of us were before this year. I don't know if you could get the version without Swine Flu but I would certainly ask. After all, swine flue became a non event-I'd certainly miss it and risk it if I'd known.

Errr..sorry Gordon - you're wrong on this. It's mutated, as all strains of flu do. The new variety is currently out in the Far East and the Antipodes..but it will get here, soon.

KTAR.com - Mutation overseas doesn't affect swine flu vaccine

Oh, well, perhaps it was worth it,we were only ill for 2 or 3 days, if swine flu is still on the go that would be worse.

Try not to upset yourself, this warning in one form or another is now an annual event, you've probably only pre-empted our usual thread starter.

AND YET, our Lab mouse , (Mick, he always gets it), is still with us.

I've no problem with anyone refusing a free recommended flu jab when they are offered it and then refuse it; however, every year there are a large number of OAP's who, having turned down the jab, clog up NHS wards with flu and resultant problems.

It therefore makes sense for these characters to be denied access to NHS hospital treatment for severe flu when do catch it and end up bed blocking for a week or longer. To paraphrase the old saying = 'They've made their own bed, let them lie in it - and not someone elses.'

Prior to 1994 I had the flue jab every year, each time I had it I was rushed into hospital on blue lights with chronic chest problems, and was in and out of hospital all winter, since then I have always refused the jab, I have only been in hospital 4 times since, none of which were flu related, the first time was July 2002 then 2008 and twice in 2009, the flu jab doesn't do for everybody Tealeaf

You're a hard man! Not lie in it, maybe die in it.

I've no problem with people suffering a reaction to the jab and needing emergency treatment; that wasn't what I was saying. Reactions to the flu jab range from none at all to severe. But the simple fact is that from December to February, the NHS faces major problems caused by OAPs taking up beds with severe flu because they said no to the free flu jab; because of this, operations are cancelled in Oncology and Cardiology and people die who would otherwise live - all because of obstinancy, ignorance and an 'I know best' attitude.

That attitude results in a cost of about 500 quid per person per day to the NHS and when you multiply that by the number of people admitted each year, it works out at hundreds of millions of pounds - far more than the cost of treatment for people such as yourself who do suffer an adverse reaction.
