Wiki Leaks

...Looks like the crap is starting to hit the fan and this is going to be the biggest running news item since last years MP's expenses scandal. It seems the Saudis want the Yanks to invade Iran (just a shame they're not in contact with the Israelis, because they're like dogs in the traps - rareing to go)....all sorts of stuff is coming out now

I wonder if Accy will get a mention?

The government have issued a D notice on the forthcoming document release, so you aren't likely to get any info from mainstream media.

The info is rumoured to be released at 9pm GMT today.

Don't worry about the D notice..it counts for nowt in todays internet communications. The government is just going to look silly, as well as being silly.

Try the Guardian or Der Spiegal websites (don't worry if you can't speak German on the latter; there is an English translation available); or try some of the US sites - NY Times, etc.

Re: Wiki Leaks

I read comment on the leaks ... and some of the leaks themselves .... what surprises me is that folks are, well, surprised at the contents and the directions of US foreign policy. Catching the general drift, I don't see much that the great American public would not agree with. The irony, the paradox, I'm pondering (that's what lots of people do while drinking their first cup of mud, and catching up on the news) is that countries which claim to be free societies (I say "claim", not "are") are ones which keep their people uninformed, and generally in the dark about what they are doing in foreign and domestic policy. I do believe that what WikiLeaks promotes the health of democracy. Unfortunately, the great democracies will respond in the wrong way, circling the wagons, so to speak.

Re: Wiki Leaks

The info revealed by Wikileaks is limited to what whistleblowers have revealed.
It is mainly focused on the devious dealings of the government of the USA, because their sloppy security allowed vast numbers of military personnel computer access to that info.
Wikileaks does not comment or draw conclusions from the info supplied.
It just exists to publicise the info which has been revealed.

We should not conclude that the info represents 'all there is to know', since those revelations are just the tip of an iceburg of secret dealings.

Maybe it will encourage more whistleblowers to reveal what they know, which is a good thing to happen. A true democracy should not have secrets.

Here's one who didn't - maybe it was the reason for his assassination which happened a few weeks later.

Transcript of speech that President John F. Kennedy gave at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on April 27, 1961

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions."

"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations."

At the end of the day what will it bring ? And are we really surprised at the depths of some of these "Scandals".That we're more aware of the deceit & lies so we'll trust them even less than we do now ? Think the trust of the public is already there. No I don't see any great changes, perhaps a reshufle of the most embarrassing proponents but that's it. You & I won't have any more money in the bank, we won't have more jobs or food on the table from it all, just more seething resentment.

You have previously said that JFK lost credibilty with you because of his marital infidelities.
No-one can be aware of the status of a marriage unless you are in it.
Since Jaqueline Kennedy's death, facts have come to light that indicate that she was aware of his promiscuous lifestyle and she was indulging in infidelity herself.

If the integrity of a politician is dependant on a monogamous marriage then few politicians can be deemed to have any integrity.

There are rumours on the web that the encrypted 'most juicy' info file involves -
The Gulf of Aden Vortex - a recently developed magnetic anomaly.

Thank god for that. The story that I heard was that it involved the Oswaldtwistle - Stanhill Vortex, a magnetic anomaly drawing in all sorts of weird stuff and far more powerful.

If you can't be bothered, you don't need to know, or for some, prefer not to know.

Margaret, whatever is revealed it won't make a blind bit of difference to joe public and when all's said and done its not about the future but about the past, onward and upward is the way forward not keep looking over our shoulders at what the Yanks said about us or what we said about the Yanks or anybody else for that matter, you can't unsay words;)

If you had googled 'gulf of Aden vortex' you would realise that it is about the present and future.

Re: Wiki Leaks

couple of points
1 .... I'm getting suspicious about this .....the Murdoch owned 24 hour Fox News (in the US) ,think it's Sky News in the UK seem to be coming out in favour of this Assuge guy, lots of chatter how the 'rape' accusation is a set up , and the UK courts being political controlled .
2.. Thing I don't understand ... Murdoch owned media in the US is blatently anti-British yet he is allowed to control vast swathes of British media , are there no controls on foriegn ownership ? here in the US all News media has to be at least 51% domestically owned (thats why Murdoch took out US citzenship) , same with airlines , Richard Branson is only allowed to own a minority share of Virgin America an Easyjet/Ryan Air type carrier .

I noticed the retaliation cyber attack on Mastercard when I tried to repeat order from a herbal remedy site and the payment page wouldn't function.
I telephoned the company and processed payment that way.

I don't mind that slight inconvenience since 'it was all in a good cause'

WikiLeaks says has no link to cyber attacks | Reuters

All well and good Margaret if you think screwing about with online payment facilities is in a good cause, don't seem to agree with you on this front;)

To retaliate against censorship and aim for 'freedom of the Internet'.
I care about freedom of expression - maybe some of you don't.

PS the internet is the only place where news that is not controlled by the media moguls is available

I request a few moments in your day to watch this view of humanity from outside the box.
It contains some violence so avoid it if you are squeamish (or do not wish to be concerned) Your free will is my concern.

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange was a step closer to being freed yesterday - but failed in a cheeky bid to keep his bail address secret.
Can you believe he asked the judge to keep his bail address a secret?

District Judge Howard Riddle said not to disclose it would fly in the face of 39-year-old Assange's own philosophy of open justice.
What a plonker he has shown himself to be.

I think that his request was a small favour to ask in view of the shabby way our 'justice' system has treated him.
