Why is is a stupid idea - at least you can get to see a doctor when you need to and you don't have to ring an 0844 number and pay over the odds in telephone charges to contact them.

Its stupid because I have sat in open surgeries for hours waiting for my turn with a load of ill people coughing and spluttering all over the place.

I phone my Doctor on a 01254 number and usually get to see him at a suitable time without much difficulty.

Open surgeries are ok if you don't work. Those of us that do need appointments to fit in with work.

Well that maybe the case with your Quack, but mine still turns out if needed, he even calls in or rings to see if things are okay, can't beat that;)

But you moved from the wilderness into Gods Country :D

Its ok when you can just wonder down to the surgery after Jeremy Kyle has finished and stick a bottle of cold tea in your snotty faced kids gob while it sits in a dirty nappy in an even more dirty pram for an hour or two chatting with your mates about Jezza but some of us do work and need to be able to arrange appointments around work not around daytime TV.

oops rant over

You want to try and get an appointment at Pals........you either die or recover before you get to see a doctor there.......and another, thing you can't get through on the damn phone to book an appointment....the only way you can do it is go down to the surgery for 08.30 and stand in the queue....sometimes you will be lucky and see a doctor(though maybe not your own doctor)....and sometimes you will have to see a nurse to see if your condition warrants an opion by a GP.
This is not good when you are feeling rough as rope.

They should concentrate on treating the sick folks and leave the well alone.....but alas that doesn't tick the governmental boxes!

Not true, been with practices that do it both ways and I don't see why I should have to wait a couple of hours to see a Doc just because they cant sort out the appointments system properly.

I don't have a problem with my Doc. Maybe you need to move to another practice.
