Thankfully it hasn't a cat in Hell's chance of being implemented.

at last some sense prevails........Now, How about one on the EU?....that'd sort things out very nicely.

yep and you can see why they wont ever referendum on europe because it would get the same response and they know it hence no referendum

the only sensible choice IMHO. The way i see it is simple- "No-One" wants to change anything in life, unless there is a benefit to them! the Lib-Dems would benefit big time by A.V. so Clegg wanted it= Fair Play to him, The Tories would not Benefit so Cameron was against it= Fair Play to him, Labour would not benefit yet Milliband was for it:confused: = Numpty, pains me to say that but its the way i see A.V.

It seems to me the point of casting your vote is to install the candidate of your choice in office. Not some second or third choice person who just happens to be on the same voting sheet.

The vote was never going to go any other way and everyone knew it. There was no appetite for electoral reform and no interest in it. This was purely Cameron and the Tories squandering OUR money on a bribe to keep the LibDems onside.

Now could we have a referendum on something that matters?...the large scale loss of our national sovereignty to Brussels as the EU moves further and further towards the creation of the United States of Europe. Could any Accyweb members of major political parties explain why we are denied this?

Because they know that the result would be overwhelmingly in favour of leaving the EU, which they couldn't deliver because of past agreements that we've signed. Like it or not, we are in it.

At least the new Government has pledged that no further powers can be devolved to Europe without a referendum, so any future moves towards a United States of Europe will be stalled.

Because we both know that they would get the result they don't want Wyn and that goes for all three main parties, The reason UKIP never create any waves in parliamentary elections is because they're a one trick pony with sod all else to offer than pulling out of Europe

I don't accept that. If we had a referendum (with the inevitable result) and if we stated our intention to leave, who knows what would happen? Perhaps other countries would start to break ranks too, emboldened by our move. Perhaps it would eventually lead to a more sensible arrangement - a loose grouping of independent states who have come together for mutually beneficial trading purposes. You know, the sort of thing we thought we were voting for in the first referendum. Whatever, if it's the will of the British people to leave, the government should look for ways to do that, even if it means protracted negotiations. The problem is that a referendum isn't even on the agenda of the major parties; the only parties who are for it are the BNP, who most people (me included) wouldn't touch with a bargepole and UKIP who seem to me to be a more rightwing version of the Tory party.

As for Cameron's "pledge"...oh yeah, sure! ;)

Incidentally, Gynn, I can't figure you out. I assume you're a member of a major party but which one?

Hang on a minute here gynn I seem to remember the Last Labour Government promising a referendum on the European Constitution but we didn't get one, and before Wyn jumps in two footed on my head, a referendum after the treaty was signed was useless, and a total wast of taxpayers money just like this latest referendum was, because we knew the answer before the result was reached
