It's us, the people who live here, who are likely to be split up, and be tagged on as an afterthought to neighbouring constituencies, who'll suffer. We could bicker until we're blue in the face about whether it's gerrymandering, and who will benefit. This will not make the slightest bit of difference to the outcome. Arguing over the reason why is a complete waste of time, and energy. The fact is the Boundary Commission have put forward a proposal, that will mean this area no longer has a dedicated Member of Parliament at Westminster. Irrespective of political differences, that is what we should be fighting. By at least attempting to campaign for us to hang on to our own M.P., and some regional power, and presence. If we are divided, it's a certainty this area will lose out. We should be united. Besides, the general public know the real reason the idea for reducing the number of M.P.'s has happened. It's as a direct consequence of the public outrage, that was caused by the political snouts in troughs expenses scandal. We may be whistling in the wind, in attempting to hold on to having our own constituent M.P. We should forget the whys, and hows. It's likely going to happen. We'll all lose out if it does. |
Re: Parliamentary Boundary Change
Yes, and I've read up on all the analysis, as to whether some will benefit more than others, and it is likely to affect traditional Labour seats, more than Conservatives.
That's not our, the constituents of Hyndburn's fight. If the last government hadn't tried to hide their outrageous expenses claims, we wouldn't be facing this situation. Hyndburn's about to be ripped off twice, and the blame doesn't lie with us. |

Good to see the Observer's 'Save Our Seat' campaign is an ongoing one.

Re: Parliamentary Boundary Change
The offical Conservative amendment to the proposed changes recommended by the Boundary Commission.
Which supports the local Great Harwood councillors, who wish to be in the Ribble Valley, and would see the borough of Hyndburn split over three constituencies. It's a big download, and I couldn't work out to attach it, so just copy and pasted the bit about Hyndburn being split into three constituencies. If I can fathom how to attach it I will. The Harwood councillors apart, who are in favour of being attached to the Ribble Valley, as far as I understand what Tory H.Q. in London recommend, isn't supported by the majority of Conservative councillors at H.B.C |

It was sent as an attachment from someone on the Facebook campaign group. I've asked for a link so l can give it here, as I couldn't work out how to attach the file to my post. |
Re: Parliamentary Boundary Change
There's soon to be an overview and scrutiny meeting at Scaitcliffe House, in which each political party's proposals, and amendments to the Boundary Commission's report will be discussed.
On the link are downloads of each party's proposed ideas, regarding the future of the Hyndburn consituency. Communities and Wellbeing Overview and Scrutiny Committee This meeting is a cross party one, and is open to members of the public. Wednesday, 2nd November. Scaitcliffe House. Ormerod St., Accrington. BB5 9SA. The time of the meeting I think is 7.30 pm. (Hopefully someone will correct me if this is the wrong start time.) We've been deemed an important enough as an area to warrant having our own M.P. since 1885. It's so important for this area that we continue having our own dedicated Member of Parliament. Come to the meeting, join the Facebook group, support the Observer's campaign. We'll all suffer if we end up tacked on to two, or three, other constituencies. https://www.facebook.com/groups/250832224959203/ |

Groove has never voted in his life. He thinks his vote is'nt going to make a difference to the outcome, and if it did the winning party would be just as useless as the others. Groove is disillusioned with politics and life in general.
