Poll: New bus station for Accrington
Lets have a vote, Should it be built?.

Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
I doubt if anyone would vote against a new bus station. The argument is where to put it not if there should be one.

Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
In most places the bus station is near the train station...

Tesco would love the bus station to be near the railway station.........would enhance their sales no end...but as it is up the hill, and a good step out of town(especially for the elderly and mums with toddlers and prams) it would be hard to justify.....and town centre shops/market hall/market would suffer. This poll is just a waste of time. The crux of the matter isn't do we want a new Bus Station .......but where is the right place for the bus station? Obviously the answer has to be, near all the shops and the market. Anything else makes no sense and will leave to town on the skids. |
Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
maybe time is playing tricks with my memory , but seems to me Blackburn Railway station is just as far if not more from the shopping mall (King William st) than Accrington station is from Broadway.;)

I caught the bus home from school every day, and even I'm lost there now. You can get to a massive supermarket diresctly off the Boulevard/Railway Road. There are still some bus stops there, but also many are on Ainsworth Street...under the shopping mall. There are bus stops near the station in Accrington, for the few that might be using both modes of transport. I suspect the majority of bus users who come into Accrington, do so to shop...in the dwindling places we have left, and which will be even fewer, if the bus station is moved further away from the town centre. |
Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
The difference between Blackburn bus and train station is that it isn't as far away from the shops as one at Accrington Train station would be...also it is all on the level......no hill to go up.
And yes Blackburn centre has changed quite a lot...with bus stops being close to the shops....in fact Ainsworth St...and Penny street used to be like a mini bus station either side of the old market....a bonus for shoppers...get your fruit and veg and hop on a bus just outside the market. OK...so it has changed now the market on that site is closed down, but buses still stop close to the commercial centre of Blackburn. |
Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
Preston Rail Station is at one end of town and Bus station is at the other end:D

Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
We do need a decent bus station, not a bus street where the buses are jostling for spaces or blocking each other from getting out, not to mention the ones relegated to the side streets because there isn't even room for all the bus stops.

Re: Poll: New bus station for Accrington
If there isn't room for them all, could it be there are too many?
How often do you see buses barely half full? Maybe the timetables need fine tuning so as to concentrate supply to times/days/routes when people use them most. |
All times are GMT. The time now is 04:53. |
