Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
You are both so right -
Don't know if moaning endears you to people though or helps make friends in the long run... Time to put my "Giddy" cap back on me-thinks.... |

Shows we're human. Sharing something isn't wrong. What you said last weekend, is something I'll now remember for the rest of my days. That's something good, that came from you, and your Dad. I thank you. :) |

Being a member of an Italian family (who rally round in emergencies even when they don't like each other), and living on a farm in a decent climate is the best prospect for survival of a revolution. Be thankful!

I love Europe. I planned to move there, and live in a tiny cottage in Brittany. A mad old Englishman, painting paintings he'd exchange for wine, till he contentedly dropped down dead of old age. All the many different cultures on our doorstep. Fantastic. We're so lucky. Do I think the political body that the E.U. has become, is good for Britain, and will be in the long-term? No, not in a thousand years. |

PS if you have paintings to exchange I have a very good stock of home-bottled wine! |
Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
You do not need to be in the club(the EU) to be friends....and I think things would be much friendlier if the bonds were loosened(or even) broken. You cannot force people to be your friends(any more than you can force someone to love you)....and this kind of friendship isn't the kind that Facebook has....it is the friendship of mutual respect for one another.....for the differences in culture, differences in the way people live their lives. It is a cameraderie where people help one another during hard times, purely because they are friends .......not because someone in a faceless bureaucratic dimension tells them that they must do this.
While I am sorry if our discussions have caused you some upset, I think you have to be a realist and see that the will of the few is being imposed on many.......and they do not like it, but are given no course of redress. If I chose to live in Europe, then I would have to live by their rules. It doesn't mean I would have to wear blinkers and ignore where Europe is being the bully. If I were younger, I would move out of the northern hemisphere for good. There is no way that I can envisage Australia being called Europe. |
Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
Ain't it marvelous how this thread has gone from things that tug at your heart strings to soddin Europe:D

Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?

No, it was definitely Gina L, in post 89, perhaps feeling a little torn, who brought Europe into the thread. We just came to the party, to keep her company. :D |
Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
Yes, she brought it in alright, but we then went on and expanded it a bit....Cashy helped too.
To be honest, I think the worries of the crisis in Europe are a lot like the last war....we know that what is coming is both unpleasant and life changing....and though we try to put it to the back of our minds, it keeps forcing itself on us. I don't mind Europe as a neighbour........but I want to keep a wall around the garden that is Britain to keep their big dog from peeing on my roses and their cat from crapping on my carrots. |
