Olympic Torch - Accy. 23.06.2012

It's coming through Accy on saturday, 23rd June, 2012. The exact route through the town won't be announced until next year but that morning it starts off in Lytham and that evening it finishes off in Manchester for a big party. Because it won't be dark until very late that day and it's going the long route round through Burnley, Rochdale and Bury, my guess is it will come through Accy around midday.

It will probably go past the town & market halls a bit early for the local winos to make their contribution, but you never know, maybe the council will put some benches up for the occaision.

My questions though, are these:

a) Does anybody care?

b) Will Councillor Britcliffe stage a walk out?

c) Will Mr Jones, MP, proclaim a great Labour victory?

d) Will Gayle organise a flash mob to celebrate it's arrival?

e) Will Cashy get barred?

Is Karen Buckley running with it from Lytham?

If so, I might go.

I think I owe her an apology.

:rolleyes::D

A - no
B - most definitely, wouldn't be the same without a hissy fit
C - They already have
D - hope not
E - probably, but sincerely hope I do too

I hope they don't want a rest on a bench whilst going through the town centre;)

Presumably all the road closures and security will come out of central government funds and not local council funds ?

I opt for option a) I don't really care, which in turn negates all other options.

Hope the whole entourage just jogs down the M65 to Burnley.

Groove is sick of the olympics already. He thinks it obscene that millions of pounds are being wasted in the current economic climate.

In the overtaking lane, and in heavy traffic.
That should do the trick.
I'm with Bonnyboy on this one.

Generally speaking I'm with Groove on this. I think that it is rather wonderful of us to have got together the olympic site ahead of schedule and on budget(however revised). Thus proving to the world, yet again, our superior ability to organise not only the proverbial brewery entertainment but also the world's premier sporting event. I would have been deeply annoyed if we had cocked it up thus allowing the french to sneer.

However as Groove points out, whichever way you look at it, it is an unconscionable waste of resources, money and time. I also think that it is a bit rich for London to expect the entire country to help pay for something only Londoners will, in the main, benefit from.
