Plus, in all the announcements on radio and television, the chief medical officer wasn't mentioned, they kept it nice and blurred by saying, Doctors, (To give the impression that all our Doctors had met for an evening out and agreed this is what should be done).

It was some one from the GMC on breakie TV this morning Less

A civil servant(chief medical officer) is an employee who follows the directives issued by the minister of the department.

When I heard it announced it was yesterday on the radio, maybe the fellow you saw is their scapegoat in case all goes pear shaped?

We would never smoke in a car with children in. We wouldn't smoke in a car with non-smokers in(even though some say they wouldn't mind in our car).
But to stop us smoking when on our own? Toxins 23 times higher than in a smokey bar? Hell, I'm inhaling this stuff straight into my lungs(yes, I know, I heard it's not good for you).
Having been in smoky bars(literally- part of the atmosphere) I don't believe the 23 times, with the windows slightly open you can see it all being sucked out.
People who smoke in cars with children in will probably be the last people to obey such a law, they will probably do it whilst using their mobiles.
More nanny state. What are the police going to do, start stopping cars and sniffing inside for evidence?

Apparently this is all to protect the children.

They would protect 10 times more children if they actually sterilised or castrated all the adults who have less than one brain cell and only use children as an excuse to drain the state of it's finances.

The 'we' is my wife and I. If we ever offer you a lift I'll make sure 'we' both light up ,turn the air off and shut the windows! I'll happily make an exception for you
-My car, I can change my rules.

You are half correct in your remark, Gordon, however, this is not a road safety issue, but a health issue. Parents who smoke in their car are just as likely to smoke in their homes with children present.

So, where do we go from there ? Send in an early morning raid into their homes with armed police with dousers ?

I'd like to see a step towards parents feeding their faces with cream cakes and fizzy drinks (whilst driving), therefore encouraging obesity.. well, could get that ridiculous. ! :D

By the way, Accyman, The B.M.A. are quoted as saying that opening your car window has no effect. !!

I can see it now ... the copper standing there, all attitudinal, demanding to know who farted:rolleyes: CSI arriving to carry the evidence away in bottles. I wonder if farts contain DNA?:D It's all so damn stupid ... I'm unable to take it seriously.

I agree, katex, one is a road safety issue, one a health issue. Although if you have children in the back and crash whilst using your mobile, won't it become a health issue?
I can see the sense in banning smoking in cars with children although how you would enforce it I don't know. We keep getting these laws to stop irresponsible people being irresponsible- they just carry on as they are, the rest of us obey them-result-no result.
