Fish and six, Eric? Now that is going back a bit - but I can remember that you could get fourpennorth of chips too... nowadays it's more likely to cost about 1.50 for the chips and the portions are usually huge - don't know why though.

My Grand-dad told me that when he was courting my Grandma they used to get a pennorth of "bits" which were all the bits of batter and chips left over. Sometimes if they were lucky there were bits of fish too!

Know what you mean about portion size -I can't eat a full portion of fish'n'chips these days -way too much!

Chippy opposite the baths, the old girl used to give the crispy bits free, a bag o chips were 3 [old] pence. mmm
