The bridge artists were hilarious.

Some soft black chap had painted her on a door, because 'she'd opened the door for womens' rights, throughout the Commonwealth'.

Er...if Princess Margaret had had an outy, instead of an inny, li'l Lillibet would never have been Queen, due to the laws of primogeniture.

Womens' rights by republican arse.

Not picky, just factual.

She became Queen in Febuary, sixty years ago, not on the 59th anniversary of the coronation.

Re: Queen to visit Accrington in May.
Took the following photo recently in Dacre village in the Lakes -it's a commemorative Coronation bench.

Just a thought, if she wasn't crowned officially until June 1953, is it really her Diamond jubilee this year or should it be held next year?:D

After a feat of copying and pasting all this just to say I had the same thought a while back -seems a bit muddled somehow - but the coronation bench is a lovely idea(and it has lasted!) -perhaps they could have a series of Diamond Jubilee ones made to put around Accrington -starting outside the Market Hall..:D

It's debatable, as to when her Diamond Jubilee is.

Febuary this year, when she ascended to the title of Queen, or June next year, when she was crowned Queen at her coronation.

Either way, historically, it's sod all to do with this weekend.

Yeah, but she formally became Queen on Febuary 8th.

Nowt to do with June, this year.

I'd always thought she was crowned in 1953..same year as Hillary climbed Everest and all that ...seems she was proclaimed Queen on the day her dad George VI died...maybe we could use this as an excuse for an extra day of next year and float some die hard republicans down river Hyndburn.:D

All though she legally became Queen on the day her dad died, they had to have a respectable mourning period before they crowned her. So she has been queen 60 years, you'd already lived a year before you became 1, yet you'd been alive 1y & 9 months.

How many more times?? It's the diamond jubilee of her accession not her coronation.

The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is a multinational celebration throughout 2012 marking the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom to the thrones of seven countries upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952.

As posted a month ago...

The Queen's previous jubilees were also celebrated in summer. Would you want a street party in February? As for the weather - it rained on Coronation Day as well 2 June 1953.

A Queen is not a Queen without a crown ...

I'd wear it full time in her shoes -all those lovely sparkly jewels!!:D

I'd get your head reinforced first... they're very heavy. And bump up the insurance.

Does she have the right to wear the Scottish crown jewels as well? They are quite pretty but less elaborate and would weigh less for everyday wear...I imagine.

Dressing down in essence...everyone knows who she is anyway -she doesn't really have to advertise...:D

Er...yes, if I was an Australian, celebrating our Queen's ascension to the throne.

Everyone's fully aware that this year marks sixty year since she became Queen.

All that's being pointed out is there is no historic significance, to it being celebrated this particular weekend.

As well as the coronation, it also piddled down for the Silver Jubilee.

Perhaps plucking June, as the pinnacle of these celebrations wasn't such a hot idea.

Febuary 8th this year, the actual date of her Diamond Jubilee, admittedly cooler than today, was otherwise wall-to-wall sunshine. :hothothot

Not a rain cloud in sight.

Long may she rain over us...in damp, and dreary June. http://th247.photobucket.com/albums/...n_umbrella.gif
