It should be to do with self respect and human dignity and consideration for others rather than by laws.
Although I don't think it's a recent problem, I remember being on buses with signs saying "No smoking or spitting allowed" and that really is going back decades!

Sorry Less, I am no liar and have never, ever spat in the street. If you have a phlegm problem you should make sure you carry tissue or hanky.

I always do carry one, although I don't make a habit of spitting in the street I can understand the occasional need for such a thing to happen, though I don't condone perfectly fit young men, (usually), thinking it is a macho thing to do because they follow the example of their so called sporting heroes, the place to fine people is on the pitches to set an example that 'super' fit so called sportmen should set a better example.

The majority of us only do it from desperation

You're not smoking enough, Less. That'll stop you coughing up phlegm( sooner or later).

basically it isnt a moral reason why these new fines are appearing its money raising ideas that wont have too many objections.Whos going to argue against fines for spitting in the street? The councils know they wont get many objections and preppare to rub their hands in glee at the extra loot they will reap ;)

Now if i get a surpise sneeze from some tarts over enthusiasm with teh perfume bottle and a projectile exits either my nose or mouth catching me off guard will i be fined and if so can i claim dammages from the tart for attacking my nostrils and making me break the law ?

How much would it cost to have somebody walking around town looking for people spitting?..would it be the police or somebody employed by the council?

I bet it would be more than the useful street cleaner gets.

although not pleasant to see i do think gobbing is one of the lesser problems Hyndburn has that needs sorting out.

i suppose if the job of catching gobbers is put on the shoulders of the dog poop catcher those night vision goggles may indeed pay for themselves lol

I would much rather see someone employed whos sole reasdon for employment is to catch people jumping red lights and driving with headlights out and at a push people with fog lights on when its not foggy.Just make a not of teh reg and send a fine through the post like they do when you get caught throwing litte rout of your window.

Hell give me a pen and pad along with a £300 pw wage and ill gladly take note of these idiots and fire out fines :D ( no uniform required i prefer stealth )

Hell all you would need is a deck chair on Blackburn Road and you'd be set up fine:D

You don't have to worry about the council. Everybody in the district sees whats going on, apart from the council.
I reckon 2 weeks of walking up and down Blackburn rd dishing out tickets and they could lower the council tax.
Left to me they would get a ticket and told to take a retest.
You may have noticed that the general state of driving/disreguard for laws or the highway code gets me a tad annoyed, it's not rocket science.:mad::mad:

Which part of TB do you not understand, Accyman ?

This is not about increasing the Council's purse, but the Nation's Health.

We are now all aware, that due to Immigration, this once eradicated disease, is again threating us. Do you put a price on this against people keeping their fog lights on ? I know I don't.

Only last year my granddaughter was sought out urgently by medical authorities because she had been in close contact with a sufferer. Fortunately, tests proved she was O.K., but another contact wasn't.

She had been out of the time for the BCG vaccination, but daughter contacted the Ministry of Health previously to insist she had it and won .. good job,eh ?

The worst case of spitting I have come across is when certain customers of mine (of another culture), would spit in the waste paper bin in front of me .... nearly joined them to vomit ... dirty sods.

Anyway, don't misread the signs ... LOL. x
