Visiting certain websites, using certain words, phrases, names will make your activity become highlighted, they can then ask the ISP for full details. To cut down on unnecessary work they can use combinations of all the above to increase their confidence in a good 'hit'. I'm all for whatever it takes to improve our security but the mass surveillance of the whole population is going too far. If it comes in I think there will be some very surprised innocent citizens getting 6am visits and needing new front doors! |

I am aware that the surveillance agency will not be able to view the content of the communication....only that the communication exists. If it is something that is thought to be a security risk, then further legal powers will have to be exercised to view the communication. |
Re: Government Spy Program will Monitor you!
OK Gordon....the software may pull up the use of phrases/combinations of phrases to ensure an 'intelligent' hit....but once that is done, then surely it needs a human being to sift through the communication to determine whether some wrong doing is being planned.

They might be able to access the sites that have been used, but will not be able to access the actual communication....to see what the conversation was about.
If a person is suspected of some wrong doing then an intercept warrant needs to be used to get the content of the communication.....and the Home Secretary has to sign such a warrant. This is in line with the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act of 2000(RIPA). If someone is really serious about internet anonymity, then there is a company called TOR who manufacture an internet anonymity shield. Apparently these sell well in countries known for repressive government practices(like China). Anyway these surveillance proposals have now been delayed. Nick Clegg(spit) has said that they are only draft proposals....and that civil rights groups will be given access to the plans before any decisions are made. I bet that fills us all with confidence |

Re: Government Spy Program will Monitor you!
it may sound like paranoia but if i can get an app for an android phone that is undectectable by its owner and have copies of their text messages sent directly to my phone just imagine what the government can get up to.Only this week on watchdog they showed how someone with a android phone running an application can stand next to you for 3 seconds and get all the information from these new pinless debit cards. Also Android phones and i-phones have been used to circumvent security on the ps3
Its pretty clever what can be done but in an age where 14 year olds are able to hack the most advanced security the government are idiots if they think its a good idea to have a massive computer database of everyones activity and details it would be number 1 target for hackers and they would beat it. Mind you even with teh best security some dumb MP will probably leave a laptop or dvd on a train with all the security details on ;) PS: the best computer hackers dont go to jail when caught they end up getting highly paid jobs in the FBI or other government agencies and then the next batch of hackers sets about beating them. Its a never ending cycle as the authorities get better so do the hackers. The only safe computer is a computer that isnt connected to teh internet and padlocked to your desk lol.As soon as you plug in that ethernet cable or wireless card you are at risk its just a matter of making yourself a harder target so the hackers move onto someone that hasnt been as carefull. |

Dear sir/madam, The government snooping plan, the "Communications Capabilities Development Programme" is rolling ahead: the story broke in the Sunday Telegraph, and then last week in the Sunday Times. This time, the government reacted by pretending that the system will be limited and designed merely to maintain their current abilities. ORG, LSE, Privacy International, Big Brother Watch and the Foundation for Information Policy Research have teamed up to provide an afternoon (19th April) of debate and campaigning, called Scrambling for Safety, next Thursday afternoon. David Davis MP (TBC) and Shami Chaktrabati of Liberty will be speaking, alongside commercial and police representatives. Scrambling for Safety 2012 The CCDP leaks are trailing two very different systems. The first would involve ISPs intercepting your webmail, social media and forum chat, and storing the data showing who you talk to. The second proposal would allow the police to gain access to the same "communications data" (who you talk to, and when) from big web companies. They would be able to get this data without a warrant, just by police officer simply signing a form, just as they do for phone bills today. We want to tease out just how unregulated and instrusive both of these plans are, and find ways to campaign to stop them. Please come along: Scrambling for Safety 2012 You can also write a personal email to your MP: Write to your MP today Let them know about the event! Hope to see you there, Jim Killock, Executive Director, Open Rights Group |

Official Secrets Act vs Public Disclosure Act, or treason vs whistleblowing.. Is it possible that she remains free because she is talking complete and utter tripe, and since she is not actually relating any secrets, cannot be prosecuted for breaking the Official Secrets Act? Then again she is one of the nutjobs that claim Diana was assassinated, 9/11 was a Mossad job, the Illuminati are to blame for the current economic crisis, she's a mate of David Icke, thinks CCTV is big brother, advocates decriminalisation of drugs and is now described by the Gurniad, which she currently writes for, as an 'international public speaker'. Of course this is probably all MI5 misinformation |

Home Secretary Theresa May is planning to pass legislation which will mean all internet use - e-mails and text messages are stored and possibly will be accessible to local Councils and other agency's who want to know your secrets!;)
BBC News - Draft Communications Data Bill to be redrafted - No 10 No 10 says the PM remains committed to giving police and security services new powers to monitor internet activity, despite criticism of current plans. The prime minister's spokesman said he accepted the criticism from MPs and peers of the draft Communications Data Bill and would re-write it. Deputy PM Nick Clegg had threatened to block it unless there was a "rethink". :do-one: |

Has any one given this much thought, how are they going to collect it all, where the eck are they going to store it, how many staff will it need to process it, will any of it be any use when you think of other centralised computer systems that don't work properly. Then along comes a spammer who steals you email address & sends out stuff in your name, think of all the slang names and abreviations that are used every day, the dodges are endless. Then a hacker breaks the code and scrambles the lot. |
