Government Spy Program will Monitor you!

We are heading for the George Orwell - 1984 society ...

"Details about text messages, phone calls, emails and every website visited by members of the public will be kept on record in a bid to combat terrorism.
The Government will order broadband providers, landline and mobile phone companies to save the information for up to a year under a new security scheme.
What is said in the texts, emails or phone calls will not be kept but information on the senders, recipients and their geographical whereabouts will be saved.
Direct messages to users of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter will also be saved and so will information exchanged between players in online video games.
The information will be stored by individual companies rather than the government.
The news has sparked huge concerns about the risk of hacking and fears that the sensitive information could be used to send spam emails and texts."

Funny how before the 2010 election the Tories and the Lib Dems were selling us the spin they were going to cancel these measures which were being put in by New Labour! Now the turn coat hypocrites are doing exactly the same thing!

mandelson was trying to push something similar through when labour were in power.I think it was called the Media Bill which seemed to be on teh face of it to combat piracey and terrorism but when looked at closer gave government the power to read your private emails etc

Yes and the Tories were saying they wouldn't do it before the election now they are doing the same thing! Even though MP David Davies claims to be against it!

and it has took you to now to realise this?
we are all caught on CCTV when ever we go out, our cars have ANPR cameras looking at them, if you use your credit/debit card you are traceable as are all your bank transactions. Cellphones note your whereabouts and even Tesco are at it with their clubcard.
If you really believe that your emails/phone calls/texts have not been intercepted and monitored by now, you must be very naive.
However if you think of the sheer number of telephone calls, texts and the vast number of emails made per day then you would realise that storing them all, let alone filtering though and reading/listening to them would be a near impossible task. Still it gives the Daily Mail something to write about.

Spot on BG, if I'd have put a link on from the Mail I'd have got some real pain, seems its okay for anybody else to do so, as we've seen over the last few years intercepting texts and emails is easy, when you have people who can hack into the pentagon from a back bedroom, nothings impossible, mind you if your doing nout wrong you've nout to bother about, people who usually shout have something to hide

Two words - Menwith Hill.

It's been going on since the telephone was invented and probably when they had the telegraph as well.

Oh ye of little brain, let's sort out a few facts:-

We can't be heading for 1984, this, is 2012, (even using your mind bending tools we can't go back in time).

1984 AND George Orwell are fictional,

When the guy put his idea to his publisher's, he called it 1948, they didn't like it being so close to their future, therefore a name change. (guess what to?).

His name well, if you can't google it why should I tell you?

Try reading some of his other books, he was actually a man that lived what he wrote about, so much so, he contracted and died from T.B., (a disease of the real world, not your brain rotting synthetics).

Now, please, don't ever use any of his material in any of your trash posts ever again!

Yeah have little brain pal! I can't even be bothered talking to you about it! You have little brain! I used the reference to Orwell as a rough comparison! FACT IS THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE ALLOWING SOME "SECURITY OFFICER" TO KEEP YOUR E--MAILS AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA! Not that yours is worth looking at! :hehetable
30 years ago if I told you the Post Office were opening your letters and photo copying the contents people would be outraged! Now people seem to take this issue for granted - all in the name of stopping those nasty little bogey men! :D sneaky little terrorists!

a row of kettles is to be installed at every royal mail depot so that they can also open and read your snail mail ..:)

oh eck i may have accidently given the government another idea

mind you its better than the previous governments idea of installing microphones into street lamps because as we all know terrorists like to gather out in the open under a bright light to discuss acts of terrorism .

Although i have no doubt we have been monitored in some way for a while now i do think the terrorist card has been almost as over played as the racism card and they cant really justify the extent they intrude on peoples privacy.

if we know that phones are monitored for keywords such as bomb then no terrorist worth his salt would use that word so the whole thing is a pointless exercise and just an excuse for government to abuse power they are given.

it wouldnt surprise me if teh government sold data collected to market research to help pay the debt they keep creating by borrowing money and giving it away ;)

No, but by your own admission you did,

I last smoked cannabis in 1993 - when I had this new Skunk - it was disgusting stuff and if kids are smoking this now no wonder there were riots last summer! Skunk makes people violent and aggressive because it is grown in artificial environment by criminals. It is this that makes it grow faster and has much more of the active ingredient in it. Also Skunk could make people stab and shoot others. Natural cannabis makes people relax not violent.

With just a week to go before Google changes to its new privacy policy that allows it to gather, store and use personal information, users have a last chance to delete their Google Browsing History, along with any damning information therein.

Tech News Daily reports that once Google's new unified privacy policy takes effect all data already collected about you, including search queries, sites visited, age, gender and location will be gathered and assigned to your online identity represented by your Gmail and YouTube accounts. After the policy takes effect you are not allowed to opt out without abandoning Google altogether. But now before the policy takes effect, you have the option of deleting your Google Web History by modifying your settings so that Google is unable to associate data collected about you with your Gmail or YouTube accounts.

Tech News Daily reports that Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco that advocates for online privacy, says: "Search data can reveal particularly sensitive information about you, including facts about your location, interests, age, sexual orientation, religion, health concerns, and more."

EFF advises all Google users to delete their web history.

Meanwhile, Center for Digital Democracy has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, asking the Commission to sue Google to stop the policy change. Tech News Daily reports FTC can impose fines up to $16,000 per day for violation.
Daily Mail reports that deleting your browsing history before March 1 when Google's new privacy policy comes into effect will limit Google's ability to track and record your every move online. The process is simple. Follow the steps below:

1. Go to the google homepage and sign into your account.
2. Click the dropdown menu next to your name in the upper-right hand corner of your screen.
3. Click accounts settings
4. Find the "Services section"
5. Under "Services" there is a sub-section that reads "View, enable, disable web history." Click the link next to it that reads: "Go to Web History."
6. Click on "Remove all Web History"

When you click on "Remove all Web History," a message appears that says " Web History is Paused." What this means is that while Google will continue gathering and storing information about your web history it will make all data anonymous, that is, Google will not associate your Web History information with your online accounts and will therefore be unable to send you customized search results.

Google's ability to gather personalized information about you by assigning data to your Gmail and YouTube accounts will remain "Paused" till you click "Resume."

well i draw my curtains at night and i do this not because i am doing anything illigal i want my privacey just like how i dont want anyone to have my ip address.Im not doing anyting illigal i want my privacey and if the government thinks i am doing something illigal then they should show their evidence to a judge or whatever and get a search warrant just like they would have to if they thought i was doing something illigal in my home.

since 9/11 which didnt even happen in this country our government has placed a blanket of guilt over everyone and somehow this has become accepted.

what happened to the days when proof was needed to establish guilt and most of all what happened to innocent until proven otherwise?

It amazes me how much of our freedom has been taken from us for our own good supposedly.

It might just be Margaret that most people on here don't actually give a toss about conspiracy theories, I for one am not daft enough to spend what little time I have left on this planet, flitting from website to website trying to find out if people are plotting and scheming, I'd rather watch Flog It:rolleyes:

For Heavens sake MargaretR, if you must make these wild statements at least back them up with the facts at your disposal!
So how many million believe it was an inside job, how many million don't?
You must know, you state it as a fact, so tell us.

You must have a high opinion of the planes you fly.
They can reduce steel girders to dust - not many people know that.

oh and did I say I have been to the Window on the World Restaurant, at the top of the WTC in the 90's
Last year we were in New York, on business, the entire crew of our Aircraft visited Ground Zero and the museum.
I will not discuss this further, while I respect your opinion and what you may read on the internet, we will always disagree. Lets try to remember that 3000 people lost their lives that day.

Margaret, I have a very high opinion of the Baby Boeing I fly, it can only carry 3519 Gallons (UK) of Aviation Kerosene, The Boeing 757's that hit the World Trade Centre can carry 9566 Gallons (UK), that's a awful lot of Flammable Fuel.
I will say no more or use silly smilies, just to try to make others look stupid.

I never said that it was a majority view - just that those 'green sections' in the poll graph can no longer be ascribed to 'a few'

MargaretR, you're wriggling-you said it was 'no longer a minority view' so its either 50/50 or its a majority view!
Its neither!
Nor did you mention 'green sections' or 'a few'.

If a poll is divided into three opinions of 33% each which is the majority?
We have minority government because less than 50% voted for them.

Any statistics can be interpreted by different people in different ways.
We chose to differ on interpretation.

Point me to the statistic on your attachment which showed 'The inside job is no longer a minority view'(your exact quote). There isn't one!

The biggest issue I have with conspiracy theories, as I've said before, is they're not conspiring very well.

It's all very well, doing all these fantastical things, clandestinely.

Their only problem seems to be keeping all these things secret.

To say they're so successful, they're rubbish at keeping what they do under wraps.

Every Tom, Dick, and Hank Jr. has access to everything they've ever done.

All at the click of a mouse.

Just a footnote that if your worried about googole collecting your information after they change their policey your worried a little too late as they have been reading your gmail and googlemail accounts from the very first day they launched them and the same for their browser.Any future amendments to their privacey policey are to tighten up and lessen the chance of them been sued when the rules or privacey change .

just assume if you type anything in google chrome or their email service they pretty much own it and can do what they want with it and show it to who ever they want lol

hushmail are pretty good if you want privacey it seems to be good enough for internet piracey groups and they really dont wanttheir information been handed out lol

The google issue is a seperate one, but coincides with this new Government spy program in which internet and phone providers have to keep records for one year and the government have access to them. This so I am told is to make sure non of us are plotting to bomb the Olympics!:rolleyes:

Fact is if there hadn't been a 9/11 then there'd have been no Iraq war! It was 9/11 that was used to persuade people we needed the war - where Blair lied and got away with it = Big Brother!

That is a good point Camros - "Peace is War!" We are close to having 2 way television - the technology is there now to have a TV set/ computer, that monitors the actions of the person or persons in a room.

Yes Less I read a lot of his books - 1984, Animal Farm, Down and out in Paris and London etc... his real name was Eric Blair! Thanks for the bio...

You have a choice, if you don't like what Google do simply choose a different Search Engine, there are lots and lots of them. Of course you could just accept that google will be collecting data and using it across their services.
If you really don't want to be tracked, get rid of your car, mobile phone, bank account and all plastic cards, sell your house and go live in a cave.
Living off the grid is the only way to protect your privacy these days.

Margaret Pilkington 03-03-2012 19:47

Re: Government Spy Program will Monitor you!

As far as I know using google search engine will not be subject to the collection of personal data.
My understanding of the situation(and it could be I have got hold of the wrong end of the stick) is that if you have a google account and log in......or a Gmail account or a youtube account, google maps...or anyother google affiliated program, then that is when your preferences will be tracked, and data collected.

I use google as a search engine....and dogpile too....so I believe that nothing much will change(I don't have any google accounts that I log into).

To be honest, we are all subjected to so much scrutiny anyway CCTV camera's everywhere......if you have shoppers loyalty cards then you are already being scrutinised for your shopping habits.
We like to think we have privacy, but in reality, we don't have much.

Re: Government Spy Program will Monitor you!

The one thing that really makes me laugh about all this data tracking malarky is the feeble excuse that is usually put forward in justification; namely that it will allow advertisers to offer the consumer who is data tracked, advertising that is more closely tailored to their preferences. I have, as yet, seen not one jot of evidence to support this claim.

Data Tracking and information gathering in general is part of the psychopathy of beurocracy. There is no reasonable justification for most of it. It just, is.

well like i said google got in trouble for snooping around in peoples wi-fi networks when they map streets for google earth so with scruples like that its best to take anything that company says as a lie.

i have a gmail account which i set up when gmail was in tirals and i only use it as an address to type into websites when asked for an email address so the spam as a result of it goes to an account i dont care for.Thats about all google are fit for to be used as a diversion for spam lol
