BBC News - Shock in Cyprus as savers face bailout levy this just shows the audacity of goverments and banks.i think this is pure theft .so now its not worth saving anything or getting a pension because the goverments and banks will just steal it off you.i can see europe in flames in the summer.

No where near theft compared with the amount of server space you steal off AccyWeb with your strange posts.

The levy doesn't officially take place until tuesday, but the scumbag bankers and politicians are limiting electronic transfers. What slimeballs; slicker than snot on a doorknob.

The bank rate has been at 0.5% for a while now.

The Bank of England is considering reducing it to below zero.

Paul Tucker: Bank chief raises the prospect of a base rate BELOW zero in bid to kickstart spending | Mail Online

....the banks would then need to charge savers for 'looking after' their money.
....which sounds like a variation on the savings tax inflicted on Cypriots.

I don't think it does, they would just be charging you for the service they provide.

According to what I have read, if the BOE do go into a negative interest rate...savers will not be charged, but the users of other services might be.

I don't get it.......I give the bank my money to hold for me.......they lend it out at an interest rate well above what they give me for saving with them..........but yet they want to charge for a current account.....but give me lots of 'perks' that I will never use and do not require....how does that work out?

Well, no Cashy I'm not ,because I won't sign up for one of these 'modern' current accounts........but each time I go into the bank they tell me that my account is an 'old fashioned' one....I tell them 'it's like me then!'
