Scottish money

Well good old Alex Salmon has said if Scotland vote for independence in next years referendum, they want to keep the £ as their currency, obviously he doesn't want to sever all the ties. I think they should get their own currency, my idea would be to call it the Haggis, which is made up of 100 drams, that should keep um busy:D

As long as they pay for the Sterling currency -After all, they will be even more of a foreign country than they are now:D

Yep should have there own currency if they want to break away they should do it properly. If I visit Spain I need euros if I visit America I need dollars and with each I get an exchange rate. If they want to risk going alone there country will have a value within the world and need its own exchange rate.

I was reading about this in today's FT, it suggested the only reason he is saying keep Sterling is to not upset the Scottish voters. It goes on to say that the rest of the UK would have to agree with a monetary union with Scotland. Such a monetary union would leave Scotland with little say over its own monetary policy and fiscal independence. It would leave them unable to control their interest rates and other money stuff as well

They could use fine copper wire as their currency ... after all, it was invented by two Scotsmen fighting over a penny.;)

Ok, I'll get my parka and be on my way.:)

Booze would be a good currency ... it comes in all denominations too:

Rare, $26,000 bottle of scotch stolen from Toronto shop - Toronto - CBC News

Re: Scottish money

I don't think keeping the pound should even be an option for them. Its not their currency.

What bugs me about the whole debate is that the Scots seem to think they can have some sort of pic n mix taking the good but not the bad. I've even heard them talking about not taking their share of the national debt (which by population is GBP 126 billion).

The greater question for me is are we getting a refund for paying for the Royal Bank of Scotland? That's a Scottish HQ bank, with an entirely Scottish board that went bust to the tune of GBP 45 billion and counting. The British had to bail that out because 45 billion represents the ENTIRE Scottish annual budget! I could go on and talk about bailouts to the Bank of Scotland which add another 10bn or so. All very well talking about splits of oil revenue etc but we footed the bill for their banking collapse and that was far larger than Scotland could ever pay for.

I vote them out, say they take their 126bn share of national debt + 50bn for their collapsed banks and see how they get on. After that the country will look like a poor version of Cyprus.

i think as soon as they realise they will most likely have to start payig for prescriptions especially if in employment they will opt to stay as they are

methodone aint cheap

infact if any of the gutless governments we had made scotland and wales pay for prescriptions and stopped giving everyone a free ride the NHS could benefit for starters

Would that be extended using English builders or would we find that allowing builders from Scotland to immigrate would get the job done for less money?
