Ontario, Quebec clean up after powerful storms - Canada - CBC News ... but it seems as if the storms have cleared things up a little; and for the next few days it looks like we are getting a break from the brudal (that's Canadian for "brutal", eh;)) heat. |
Re: Heatwave
Jen, another trick is to put a damp teatowel over your lower legs..or a pair of cold damp socks on your feet,
Glad my tips helped you. |

Re: Heatwave
Heatwave! Ha! What you are experiencing is more like mild summer weather here in the Land of Oz. Crocodile Dundee said ‘you call that a knife, THIS is a knife’ well, you call that a heatwave……
When a friend visited from Clayton some time ago Mother Nature really turned it on for him. 45 degrees!!!! Have to admit that WAS a bit excessive. Presently sitting here shivering in 14 degrees I am very envious of your current weather, and looking forward to our warmer stuff. |
Re: Heatwave
dotti..usually our summers are like your bad winters...so this is a bit of a change for us.
I have spent many summers in Oz, and that is where I learned my tips for coping with the heat. I'm just grateful that we don't have the spiders and the snakes as well. |
Re: Heatwave
it rained this morning .. very fine rain only for about 5mins ... is this the end of the heatwave? .. yes it was probably because I was up at 7.30am doing my washing ...:p

Re: Heatwave
Hi Margaret, you certainly do learn how to cope when you have to, and do have to be sensible. In the early years of us being out here, and without the luxury of air conditioning, the kids would play under the water hose – watering the lawn at the same time. By evening the indoors would be very hot and so we would put the TV outside to watch. Slept outside many times – the only danger in those days being from the mossies. Sadly it’s a bit different now.
As for spiders the kids had pet ones, very spoilt they were too (the spiders not the kids!) as they (the kids) would catch flies and throw them into the webs. Large one lived in the house for so long that we gave it a name (Sebastian). Btw, have to tell you that I remember suffering sunburn every year in Lancashire (many years ago) believe it or not. Trying to get that healthy tan look (that’s a joke, Joyce!) used to rub the body with olive oil or coconut oil I think it was (idiot!) and lie out in the sun, cooking! Suffered sunburn, peeling skin – and lots of pain. Then did it all again the next year. Never learnt! Anyway, I’m sure you will all find ways of coping with the heat. Keep well! |
