Can anyone help me to identify this old coin? We came across it tidying out a drawer.

I,ve looked on the internet but all I can get with inputting the details is an Italian website. As I don't speak Italian I don't know what it is

Interesting.
Dianne (Mobertol) knows a bit of Italian - she lives over there.

More of a commemorative medal than currency I reckon.

That coinshop next to the Post Office may be able to tell you?

I tried a quick search in Google but have come up with nothing specific. It's a commemorative medal -Cashy's translation is correct. Looks like it could be bronze to me and being over 100 years old it may well have some value - depends how many there are still around and if collectors want it!

If you put a link to the website you found I can have a read through and see what it says.

On the back of the medal along the edge there appears to be a name -probably the artist who designed it -I can't manage to read it but it may be useful to know!

That's what I did too but they were just general sites about Italian coins/medals and not that particular one as far as I could tell.

If you manage to read what it says in the small writing that might help.

I'll try looking at the site for the Province of Campobasso -that may have something...

BTW how did this come to be in your family? Did you have someone connected to Italy or perhaps someone who was over here for some reason or other?

I don't really know. My late father in law was Polish and served with the Polish Carpenian Rifles in Italy in WW2

A token for free entry to a house of ill repute?

No doubt your Dad was wise to keep the coin rather than appear on sick parade.
;)

She is brandishing a whip so perhaps it's as well he kept it.
