Re: That's HOT
Funnily enough, the weather forecasters are saying it's the severe cold in Canada and USA which is causing our wet and windy weather. Even though they're 3000 miles apart, the temperature difference is messing with the Jet Stream and creating one low pressure after another. Wet, wet ,wet (and windy) here till end Feb, so cold, cold, cold in Canada and USA?

Well captured, Eric. That's pretty much what I've got here as well. I haven't known a winter like this in these parts since the early 90s. I'm starting to get cabin fever

It's getting to the point where we're all asking ourselves: "Where else can we put it?" The snow is piled so high, it falls down again like a mini-avalanche.

Things have changed a bit Eric, winter gear is now two tickets south.

Re: That's HOT
Had another couple of hot spells here in sunny South Australia (actually had nothing else but hot spells for the past few weeks) with more to come apparently. Should be about 42 tomorrow and continuing in the high 30's and into 40 again next week.
Just thought I'd throw that in - especially for Turtle and Eric. |

I felt a bit chilly this morning when I was standing outside waiting for my little granddaughter to come here. Thought for a minute or two that I might have to put a cardigan on. Must have been about 15 degrees.....
Still it's back to 42 on Wednesday. |
Re: That's HOT
...still it soon warmed up to around 34 degrees. Beautiful day.

Re: That's HOT
On a serious note though I do feel so sorry for all the people who are being affected by the awful fires raging in parts of South Australia and Victoria. Absolutely dreadful situations - and the worst part of it is that arson is the cause of more than a few of them. Deliberately lighting fires that have the potential to cause loss of life, not to mention property, is the lowest of the low.
The arsonists are out to destroy while so many courageous people put their lives at risk to fight the fires. Much property has been destroyed, thankfully no lives have been lost up to now in this latest lot of fires - lets hope this continues to be the case. |
Re: That's HOT
Wow! talk about extremes - 43 degrees on Wednesday followed by rain, rain, glorious rain, bucketing down.......more rain in a short while than we normally get in all of February apparently. Flooding here and there. Some roads were closed yesterday because of it.

That's a bit cruel, Eric, ha ha. Have to stick up for Australian wines being as how I live a half-hour drive from the Barossa Valley, about 90 minutes from McLaren Flat and about 40 minutes from the Clare Valley, places where so much of the great Australian wines come from....but mainly sticking up for them because they are luverly.......speaking of which - well I'll fill up my glass and say 'Cheers!!!!'

Re: That's HOT
This morning I drove by a half dozen or so youngsters waiting for their school bus. They ranged in ages from 7 to maybe 10. Every one of them were sitting in the hard, frozen snow bank playing about. Their knapsacks were left on the sidewalk, it was minus 18 degrees C, minus 30 with the windchill, and there they were, boys and girls, messing about in the snow. Granted, they all were wearing snow suits and well kitted out with hats and mitts. But I thought, they are true Canadians, not like me. I feel like such a wimp! Bring on Spring, I say.

Re: That's HOT
It was frosty this morning here, but nothing at all like your cold stuff.
We have had a very spring like morning, with blue skies and whispy clouds...the cloud cover has increased over the last hour or so...but the day has definitely had a Spring like feel to it. |

Re: That's HOT
Hi Eric - just to rub it in, we're having lovely weather here in South Australia - in the mid-20's and low 30's.
Unfortunately haven't been able to go out much to enjoy it as have been nursing sick husband, who is now much improved thank goodness - second (very sudden) attack of pneumonia in 6 months. Spent our (57th) wedding anniversary in Hospital Emergency via ambulance ride. Can think of better places to be, but thank goodness for them. Hope your weather improves soon. |
Re: That's HOT
Dotti that sounds lovely...much more comfortable.
I hope your husband gets better soon and that you can have a belated celebration for your 57th wedding anniversary. |
Re: That's HOT
It is definitely more comfortable, Margaret - I don't think anyone should complain about it - but you can bet your bottom dollar someone will.
Thank you for your kind wishes re himself. Definitely on the improve - is again cursing 'my' politicians and being one-eyed about his!!!!!! |

I like the Emily Dickinson Poem Eric.
minus 14.....brrr! It is very grey here and threatening to rain, but it is 55 degrees F....and I have a line of washing out blowing and one eye on the clouds ready to rush out and bring it in. Last week when we went on the bus to Southport the hedges were just brown twigs...this week there is the hint of green about them. We are not going to Southport this weekend...I think it will be Halifax instead...Halifax Yorkshire that is, not your neck of the woods Eric.(I know it isn't really that close to you) |

Oh, I feel for those folk. I hate snow...and fortunately this winter we have had very little white stuff...and what we had had been mainly hail or frost.
A winter that has been as bitter and prolonged, must be very hard to live with....except there is not much alternative. |
Re: That's HOT
At the present time the weather is still pleasant here in South Australia, around the high 20’s and low 30’s during the day – but a bit chilly overnight (around the 15 degrees).
I don’t enjoy the colder weather, so not really relishing the thought of winter, but will just have to grin and bear it and make the most of every day whatever it is. At my time of life I can’t afford to wish my time away until next summer!!!! Oops! The old man has gone off to play golf at the local club which is just a couple of streets away. Went at 6.30 this morning, still dark. Plays the game with a group of other grumpy old men. He’s not keen on the cold either – already wearing warmer clothing – have no idea what he’ll do when the weather gets really cold. Maybe hibernate…. |
