Gin. And if that fails, More Gin.

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Red wine can hit the spot too.
I won some Rioja this week. Thought I might save it for Christmas. |

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
If I'm suffering with aching bones and a custard nose, my favourite cure is a Yates's Blob, which is a concoction of Yates's Aussie White, hot water, sugar & lemon. Mmmm... baby. Delicious!

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Poor Sparks......I think my husband has got what you have got.....just have a look at my journal... it tells all about it. I have given him the lemon drink, but alas no alcohol.....being ill should not be fun, and I don't want him to get the wrong idea!
Try a Menthol inhalation.....one crystal of Menthol in about aninch of boiling water in a jug (you put your nose where the spout is and breathe deeply until there is no more steam) It will get rid of the thick stuff that comes down your conk. |
Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Oh I should have said..... you can get the menthol crystals from any good Chemist.
Oh and don't be tempted to put more crystals in the water or it will blow your brains out......and they will come down your nose too! |
Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
If you have that bloated heartburn sensation after a meal a small shot of Jaegermeister will do the trick. Keep the Jeagermeister in the freezer (it won't freeze) pour a small shot and sip it slowly. It looks and tastes a bit like Covonia bronchial balsam type stuff but it is superb for heartburn and settling your stomach. Far better than Rennie, gaviscon and ranitidine and it gets you ratted...:D

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
couldn't find anything helpful on google, except perhaps that its made by Campari
|
Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
It is a very strong liquer type stuff. It comes in a green bottle with a stag on the label. It's about 35% proof and costs roughly £10 in Asda. You drink it very cold so it should ideally live in your freezer. Hope this helps

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Is this thread just for alcoholic type remedies?

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Jägermeister is German herbal schnapps (pronounced Yaeger-my-ster). Jäger meaning Hunter, Meister meaning Master: Master Hunter or Hunt Master.
It was originally used when out hunting to keep the hunters warm (and drunk occasionally), and no hunting group would be found dead without it (probably dead drunk if found at all). There are over a hundred other herbal schnapps, and when I come over in April next year I'll bring a couple of samples with me (Lettie you're first in the queue as you take Jägermeister regularly). Schnapps are normally taken after a meal to aid digestion, and help get rid of a bloating feeling (pregnant women excepted). Normally between 34%-45% proof, there are also many other types of vegetable or fruit schnapps(sometimes milder at 20%-30%). At home in Bavaria, the local one is called Bärwurz (Bear Roots), and is based on Celery!! or Celleriac!! (40% to 48%). I can positively confirm that it kills rats as well!!! (shall I send some to Peter Britcliffe?) |
Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Thanks Darby, I will certainly be first in the queue for the Schnapps. I will confirm that it does aid digestion and I don't see why more people don't drink it. Maybe other Europeans know something we don't but it is a very civilised ending to a big meal. I'm going to have to make sure that I have some in for Christmas. Maybe Staggeringman can have a little Jaegermeister behind the bar in the Stag for us Accy webbers after the Christmas meal.:D

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
I have only ever seen one establishment (pub) selling foreign tipple, and that was down near Eastbourne in East Sussex.
He was selling Ouzo and Metaxa - he was greek so this may have had something to do with it! |

Re: Tipples For Ailment!!!
Kummel is brilliant for settling tums, you can eat another plateful afterwards, also it tastes good.
Gin never fails. (Well, never has with me yet ...) |
