A great show

So, weather permitted, tomorrow we are going to experience a pretty rare phenomenon (solar eclipse (80%?) and we won't see another till about 2090.
The eclipse will take place at around 8.45am but is due to last for a couple of hours.
Observing this eclipse should be done with cation as (cough cough) 'experts' say even using digital devices to view this event can cause damage.
We are not to look directly at the sun, even with the use of dark sunglasses. One way to view the eclipse safely is to use a colander and hold it so that the light shines through the holes onto the ground. When the eclipse takes place you will see dozens of miniature crescents.
Alternatively, you can punch holes into a price of card and reflect the image onto the ground,if you want to be fancy you could punch your name etc into a piece of paper and do the same.

If any of you do manage to catch it in a photograph or two.I'd be keen to view them.....

....happy gazing :D

Not on topic, but close: did you guys get to see the Northern Lights over the last couple of days? There were a couple of solar belches that really set the ghost curtains dancing.

I didn't even know we was suppose to experience the aurora borealis show in the uk :o...I'm also disappointed no members got photos showing us the magic and majesty of nature too (tut).
Hopefully,I'll catch this eclipse (no solar filter though),I don't feel any better for missing the northern lights though.....

.... I'll have to try some herbal therapy ;)

Intermittent cloud here in Great Harwood, but keeping my fingers crossed. I remember the last one in 1999. Most people at work went out into the staff car park to watch.

First rule of the photographer,,, make sure your lens and filters are clean.
Second rule, get out of bed in time to set up your equipment.

I ignored both rules and just about leapt out of my bed in time to grab the camera and fit a filter and poke the lens through the bedroom window.
Ah well, back to bed.
I'm not lazy. The doctors been and says I have a viral infection in my coughing muscles. Or summat like that.

I decided to go to martholme viaduct again and view it from there.
My pics are (very) poor and they didn't show anything of this event :(.
On the plus side (if you can call it that) i paid no attention to caution and looked directly at it and now when i close my eyes i see a crescent :D

I like your shots because they show the surroundings at the time of the event :)
