So, To Whom Does The Space Belong?

Wending my merry way home and walked passed an argument between two disabled folk, one in a wheelchair and one getting his wheelchair out of his car that he had just parked on a disabled bay.
The irritation for the first, was that the second had parked in a bay that he had applied to the council to have access to his house and got the lines painted on the tarmac.
The second guy pointed to the windscreen of his motor and it showed a blue disabled badge, 'nowt you can do about it pal, I'm disabled and displaying all the legal documents'.
This did not placate the first, 'it's my parking space' he screamed 'I need it for my car 24/7'.

'If that was true' said the second 'I wouldn't have been able to park here 'cos your car would all ready be parked in the space, as it is I'll only be a few minutes just nipping the Post Office'.

Now I can't decide which was being more selfish, the guy who has a bay outside his house or the guy parking in that bay, each had alternatives the driver could have parked in several spaces (two where nearer the Post Office), or the householder for thinking he has exclusive rights and whoa betide anyone daring (legally or not) to park in his world.

A storm in a tea cup that could have seen the end of more fragile men than they.

If it`s been put there by the council and outside a private home then it`s not for blue badge holders, just for the resident of that house.

Or maybe not..:o

"bays cannot be reserved for individuals – any Blue Badge holder can use the bay"

Wouldn't you think that these two drivers(both with disability) would have had some common ground..that they could have been a bit more accommodating of each other?
wouldn't you think that they had experiences in common which just might have had an effect on how they behaved?
No...they were both at fault.
The man who considered it to be HIS space...and the man who had parked in it(but whose attitude to a fellow disabled person stinks)
They both needed to look at how they acted and they should both be ashamed...but of course they won't...there does not seem to be much shame in the world these days.

You are right of course Margaret, though perhaps changing the name of the thread to 'Close Encounters Of The Turd Kind' may be too late.
I didn't remain to see the outcome for fear they roped me in to arbitrate.
It seems according to someone else that saw it that the dummy spitting pair, went at each other (to the best of their ability),
Using their wheel chairs as dodgems as each tried to better the other.
Now had I stayed I would have had a cracking video to upload to the site.

You know Less....this is a dire story really.
Two disabled people who have much more in common than the need of a parking space.
And we wonder why there is so much conflict in the world...and so little common sense.
If common sense were elastic there would not be enough to make a Frogs jockstrap.

I may be wrong, but I have taken it that these two were male.....so maybe it was a male 'territory' issue.
I am not sure if women are quite so territorial(though that is not to say that some ARE).
I just find it very sad

Both dressed as male but acting worse than fish wives.
All women are territorial just as bad as the men, but they'll sit back arms folded and going Tsk, then send their feller in to sort it out even if he dares to say it's not worth fussing over.

Well, It must be just me then.....It never bothered me if someone parked at my front door...I would look for elsewhere to park...but my other half likes to have 'his' parking space...even though I have told him that it is only his if he is in it!

Oh....and never in my life have I sent my 'feller' in to sort out my issues.
I would be offended if he even offered

O.K.

But have you ever crossed your arms and gone TSK?

I once had a run in with a guy in Rishton, he'd put a home made sign in his window saying 'Please Keep Clear', he came out and said I couldn't park there and pointed at his sign, I pointed at the road and the lack of any restrictions on parking and walked away. He was fuming, but I told him if he kept this up I would come back and park there everyday for the next 6 months.....

just one of those things where people wrongly in general think the space outside their house is theirs and hate to see another car there wether they are disabled or not.

Re: So, To Whom Does The Space Belong?

So where was the car of the guy who thought it was his space?
Obviously not being used to transport him.

Not BB related but I have had threats of violence from a certain local bully who hated people parking outside his house, despite him having a double drive. (I'm glad he moved away.)
