Just spotted this in the national press.
Mother Shipton a Yorkshire Prophetess, composed this verse in the 16th Century.
These mighty tyrants will fail to do
They fail to split the world in two.
But from their acts a danger bred
An Ague leaving many dead.
And Pysics find no remedy
For this is worse than leprosy.
What will the Covid denyers come up with for this.

that mother shipton has actually got quite a lot correct. i always am glad when going through knaresborough the road bridge does not collapse. she said the world would end if it falls down 3 times. its already done it twice.

This reference to Councils and their ways made me smile – they must be the same everywhere. A little while ago a Council worker (and I use that term loosely) came along the pavement spraying poison at the edges of the grass that grows on the verge. Well I think that’s where he was supposed to spray it – but somehow he managed to spray the whole area and subsequently the grass died and left a grassless area which had once been nice and green.

The other day another ‘worker’ came along on a ride-on mower and mowed the grass that wasn’t there. He was followed by still another ‘worker’ with a leaf blower, blowing the non-existent grass away.

Still it was a nice day to be out and about – and getting paid for taking a walk would have been an added bonus.

Re: Corona Virus

First of all, my apologies for always mentioning Australia, but this is where I live, and I hope you find some interest in hearing about the situation here.

We are due to get the first vaccine shipment within days – but this will still be tested – why is this necessary if it is safe and already has been fully tested? As the vaccine has to be kept at -70 degrees it has been acknowledged that there will be some that ‘go off’ and have to be destroyed. How will they know which might be suspect. What if there are some bad ones that slip through the system?

The ‘maybe’s’ and ‘possibly’s’ that those in charge bring into their conversations do not instil confidence. The questions as to how long the vaccine will be effective, will it be a yearly necessity to protect – or is this year’s jab a protection for life, will there be any long-term effects, remain unanswered. Who knows? Does anyone?

Normally I am an optimistic person but the more I read and hear about the vaccine the more I worry about it.

By the way, did you know that tennis players, playing in the Australian Open, are allowed to continue playing (albeit to empty stands) even though the State is in strict lockdown again, as they are classified by the Government as being essential workers – as essentially this is their only place of employment…..try telling that to others who have been severely affected by this latest lockdown. Won’t even try to speculate why this is so….

No apologies needed dotti, it makes a change to hear other peoples views wherever they live and as for your second paragraph I can only say; (you and me both". Stay safe, Stay happy, The Lancashire Luddite.

still marking out football pitches even though no games are being played. wish i could download stuff but they actually marked over a mole hill. as for that so called poison stuff they spray. they sprayed by the pavement and walls a couple of years back and the weeds have never been more healthy. now if a tree doesn,t moved its chopped down for no other reason that its there. some actually want the councils to get more money. god help us if they did and what other money wasting schemes they,d come out with.

On the same subject, monkey hanger, which of course has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread, here is another little story.

A few years ago a friend, Bobby, worked for Telstra. Telstra employees had the same reputation for work ethic that Council workers have. This particular day Bobby’s crew had travelled quite a long way to the site of their job. On reaching their destination it was discovered that they had inadvertently left the shovels behind. Bobby phoned the boss back at base and asked if he could send the shovels. The boss asked Bobby if they have any long-handled brooms, to which Bobby replied that they had. ‘Well’ said the boss ‘you will just have to make do with those to lean on until I can get the shovels to you’.

I believe that there is a lot of jabbing and jousting going on in Scotland at the moment but it is mainly between the "Wee Burney" and the "Red Salmon".
