Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

You think they would have removed this now don't you.

I bet all those people who lost their jobs on Xmas eve feel just wonderful.

That sucks more than a bangkhok ladyboy..

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

If you really must use such graphic metaphors please get the spelling right. It's Bangkok, not bangkhok.

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

Thankyou learning me correct way spell, but why? Does it actually matter? I'm sorry for the colourful depiction and I'll gladly endeavour to be more considerate of using such illustrious observations henceforth, there's no reason to point out my poor grammar though :(

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

You may have been taught at school that correct spelling does not matter, I understand that this is currently the fashionable position taken by a growing number of teachers of English.
But correct spelling does matter, for the simple reason that it ensures that your reader does not misunderstand your meaning, if for no other. There are plenty of people out there who will happily misunderstand what you write, given the opportunity. This is how flame-wars and libel cases start. It is better not to give them the opportunity in the first place, don't you think?:)

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

I concur.

My qualms were with those petty enough to point out insignifficant mistakes to achieve little more than ridicule the original ink slinger and highlight his folly..

..And I had to think about it! Now THAT is uncalled for!

When I was at school we were always told to "think before you ink".

my grandaughter who lives with me has learning difficulties, one of her main problems is her spelling, as she is a member on this site all she does is go into the arcade, because she is 17yrs old & embarrassed bout her difficulties. if it was the texting language i too would ask them to spell correctly, but in some circumstances it may not apply, we cannot all be perfect spellers.

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

Exactly my point Mez, I'm sure she'd feel a lot more confident if people didn't jump at the chance to point out someone's flaws..

But with that said I did ask for it earlier.

Do spelling mistakes really matter,as long as you can follow what is being written there is no real problem. Not everyone excells in english.

Back to the plot - do you suppose HBC will ever be able to follow their own? (Plot that is.)

Wez 11-01-2005 14:08

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

Highly doubtful Willow, I'm amazed that they actually get anything done.

Re: Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear

The "Go Advanced" option next to the "Quick Reply" button gives you the opportunity to use a spellchecker before you post.

However, returning to the matter in hand, it does not surprise me that HBC have not amended their website to take account of the Warden's change in status. They always seem to me to have had a "Make it up as you go along" attitude to local government.

But I do think that it is a bit rich of "Barking" Britcliffe to try to shift the blame for this woeful state of affairs onto the partners. He is pursuing the same policy with the Council Tax rise, though this time he is pointing the finger at Lancs CC and the government. How typical, take all the credit but none of the responsibility.
