Re: Accrington Carnival
Yes a lot of hard work has gone into the preparation for the Carnival.I have in the past lambasted some of the young talent around Accrington for their anti-social behaviour, but the tenacity that the youngsters have shown week after week designing and making outfits for the day does them great credit. Thanks should also be given to the voluntary helpers who work behind the scenes to make this day possible.Lets hope it gets the weather it deserves.
As the saying goes nowadays RESPECT! |
Re: Accrington Carnival

Re: Accrington Carnival
Well the weather has been great and the carnival procession was brilliant. I tried to take photos but some heads kept popping up in front of me.
Mimi spotted Mick across the road from us also armed with trusty camera. There didn't seem to be as many stalls on the field as there have been in the past, or was that just me? We watched the jugglers and "Laurel and Hardy" but spent most of the time queueing up for cold drinks! |

Re: Accrington Carnival
I was sat outside the Stag for most of the afternoon, hoping for the carnival procession to pass by; Jee-zus, it was hot. Maybe it passed by whilst I was inside topping up my libation.

Dumb F*&%, reading not something your familier with? Carnival is a truncation of the latin word carnelevarium and refers to the period before Lent in the church calendar when it was the custom to consume all the perishable stocks of food that were not allowed during the period of general fasting. A hangover from our medieval past. How oddly typical it is that Accrington should decide to hold its Carnival in June. |

Re: Accrington Carnival
Although I saw three of the floats pre carnival as I had to drop my lad off as he was on the Accy Stanley float, Got to the field for the afters by 1.30 pm. Got to agree site was a tad dissapointing compared to of old. Can remember site on Accy college & before that at Oak Hill park as a kiddy with allsorts to do along with displays as parachute display, white helmet motorcycle display etc. I know Peel park is not quite as open for this type of thing but tradition does die hard, particularly here in the North.
Worse sight of the day though was some character with a chain round her neck, cajoling stalls to have their picy taken with her, some called her "Mayor?" Funny how she has never been heard of round Clayton where apparently she is a local councillor, & best of all having a pic taken with the Stanley boys, for who she took the liberty of renaging on a sponsorship deal with not so long ago. Know you aint two faced dear coz you wouldn't have worn that one on Sat dear. |
Re: Accrington Carnival
My son was supposed to march with the wardens as he is a junior warden but a severe ingrowing toe-nail prevented this. :(
