In my mis-spent youth, I worked in London, for an eminent art historian who was himself a pupil of that archest of all queen's, Sir Anthony Blunt, former Master of the Queen' Pictures, Russian Spy and one of the few people who could out-camp the Queen Mother!. One day the subject of gay extremists in general and Peter Tatchell's antics in particular came up in conversation and he reminded me of what Sir Anthony had to say on the subject of the gay rights movement; " There are times dear, when one would wish that 'the love that dare not speak its name' would learn to keep its bloody gob shut!"

It's just one of those things that stick in your mind and I thought I would share it with you all.

The same Sir Anthony Blunt who was a homosexual when it was illegal to be so, who was blackmailed for it into spying for the former Soviet Union, & becoming a traitor? Happy days. He wasn't unmasked as the infamous forth man until much later when he was the keeper of the Queen's pictures, [thats Elizabeth not Elton!] lncidently l saw the great Alan Bennet star as Blunt in his own play about the whole silly story 'Single Spies.' Prunella Scales was the Queen, someone shouted 'Sybil' when she came on- it was very funny!

Yes, That's him. The same one who entertained members of the Guards Division at his flat in the Courtauld Institute. Like most Aristocratic queens he was partial to "a bit of rough".
