My mum along with the rest of the family would be splitting her sides watching him, then in the next breath saying he should be ex-communicated from the catholic church. What a brilliant guy.

This gentleman who, I never got the privilage to meet or know must have been quite a magnificent man. I look after a lady (that has dementia) and she can hardly tell me howmany kids she has got but, her daughter came to our nursing home the day after mr.allen died and told her mum, the little lady was beside herself with grief, she cried all day and told some fantastic stories about him, to my suprise that she could remember but she did, so he must have been a good chappie.

I think he was ex-communicated, Sara. I don't think he lost much sleep over it.

His story about his first day at school, at a convent in Dublin:-

There was a crucifix on the wall and he had never seen one before.. One of the nuns said to him, "You will be a good boy." He looked at the crucifix, a man nailed to a cross, and said to himself (you had to hear him say it), "Yes, I will be a good boy". :D

This world's a poorer place with the passing of men like him and the late, lovely Dermot Morgan (Father Ted), who took the pomp and hypocracy out of the institution of Religion.
