BODY art is said to be addictive but for one Accrington teenager it has proved a bit of a pain.
Mallory Draycott had hoped to get the words “Totally Addictive...” emblazoned on her stomach.
Unfortunately, following a mix-up between her and the tattooist, she ended up with something quite different.
Instead of “Addictive”, the red-faced 18-year-old now has the word “Additive” tattooed on her midriff.
Mallory, of Whalley Road, Accrington, explained she had been unsure how to spell the word, so the tattooist had looked it up in the dictionary.
“I didn’t notice it myself,” she said. “I was showing my dad and he pointed it out. I wanted to scream when I realised. It’s so embarrassing.
“I’ve been told that the only thing I can do is to have it covered up with another really dark tattoo, which means I’m going to have to end up with something I don’t really want.”
Mike Leigh, of the Accy Tattoo Centre in Whalley Road, where Mallory had the tattoo done, said he had written out the phrase and checked and double-checked it with Mallory before starting work.
He said: “She couldn’t spell it so I wrote it out and asked her to check it.
“She said it was OK and when I put the transfer on she even looked at it in the mirror and said she was happy with it.
“I’ve offered to sort it out for her.
“She plans to draw her own design. Whatever she brings back we will do over the top free of charge.”

Have you seen the thing? I wouldn't want anything written on me by that tattooist. Copperplate it ain't.

I don't think we should jump to the conclusion that because the combined forces of an 18 year old girl & a Tattoo 'artist' can't spell one word between them is the fault of the teachers.
What might be of some use is if one of them gets enrolled onto some form of adult education course & the other changes their career so that they cannot cause permanent disfigurement to any other person foolish enough to trust them.

No I just saw the on line version of the Observer with no pictures, I thought the bit" I was showing my dad and he pointed it out" was it just me but why would you show your Dad your stomach?

If you can't spell what you want tattooed permanantly on your body then you deserve everything you get if it goes wrong.
I don't know if this is just urban myth or whatnot but theres a tattooist who amongst all his "trendy" chinese writing tattooes has one that means "I don't know what this tattoo means".

Even more worrying has got to be fact thah she actually went and told the Press about it!Surely you would be so embarassed that you would hide both your face and the awful tattoo!

Sadly, you don't have to be able to read to breed. But if you can't read, how can you vote? You wouldn't know who you were voting for, surely? Is this how some of our politicians get in? I think we should be told ....

We do seem to have a sub-species, don't we. Why would anyone want "Totally Addictive" on their tum in the first place?

Probably for the same reason that people wear burberry checks and scrape their peroxided hair into a top-knot and name their brats after pop singers. Which, in turn, probably has a lot to do with wearing as much cheap low carat gold jewellery as possible and never being seen in anything other than tacky sportswear, which is a consequence of having aspirations and an IQ lower than your average snake's scrotum. But I could be wrong.
