999 or 101

101 is the new single non-emergency number that will provide the public with direct access to advice, information and action for community safety and anti-social behaviour issues within their neighbourhoods, while freeing up the 999 service to handle emergency incidents.

So from what I understand we should now use this number for non-emergency issues.

I don't know a lot about it yet but it is perhaps something that we should all be aware of.

The idea is so that they can charge you for the call to 101.

Sorry prefer 999 as 101 makes me think of Paul Merton and Room 101. Will also depend on how they class anti social behavior issues in a neighbourhood ie cicil or criminal.

Re: 999 or 101

It is supposed to take the pressure off the 999 system, but it does cost, 10p per call. How you are supposed to decide whether an incident warrants 999 or 101, I'm not sure, but judging by some of the response times to 999 calls, don't bother with 101, just send a letter.

Re: 999 or 101

Why don't they just advertise the local police number so that people know it

Yes, idle gits don't desserve a brew time, all they do is drive around waiting for crims to jump out of alleys and shout pig so they can chase them. You're supposed to actually do some work to get a brew time.

It's obvious - if they did that, people would phone them. Just stick to writing a letter -

Dear Chief Constable,

I hate to trespass on your valuable time, but I was robbed at knifepoint last night in Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. The robber also took the opportunity to knock me about a bit, as well as stealing my pension and my treasured photos of my late husband.

If you feel you can spare the time, my address is ..........

Yours
Council Tax Payer

Might work.
