I would and have done camping at Marton Mere. Blackpool zoo is a lovely day out and not expensive. Likewise a nice day on the beach with a picnic and donkey rides and paddling in the sea is a nice day out that also doesn't coast the earth. coral island has good toddler rides that are cheap and good value. You can spend hours on the 2p slots and pushers for less than a fiver. The shops are decent for a wallk round. The sandcastle is fun and not too dear, there is fleetwood freeport down the road for shopping, just playing with Siobhan on the site, or in the splash zone or on the playground or feeding the ducks/geese. There is the Martin Mere wildlife centre not far away and the windmill farm and activity centre pretty much next door. iMHO it just takes imagination.

Even if you go abroad you still have to spend money and or travel to the local attractions.

Have you seen the price to pitch a tent at Marton ( if you mean the haven one) over £400.00 for the week... I would sooner sleep in the field, not to mention all the lovely ( ouch) if not noisey kids school holidays and all that...

I have been to that camp, but in a caravan would not pay that just to camp:

Blackpool is a Grade A dump. It's full of winos, druggies and men that dress as laydees.

Eeeew wonder which one Cherokee is then ...

Sure it is different to live in rather than just a visit where you stay on the front all the time, which, yes, some buildings are in need of re-furbishment.

They have a great shopping centre and lots of the streets behind the prom are lovely, wide and clean ... sure there are lots of restaurants and pubs further back too which the residents patronise.

Re: Blackpool Rocks

Marton Mere don't do tents, £400 gets you a premier pitch at height of season with your own tap, drains, waste, concrete hardstanding and a large area alongside. It also includes all your electric, entertainment programme for the kids (remember £400 is for a family up to 8) , evening cabaret, swimming, climbing frame, splash zone for teh kids and a on site nature reserve and centre.

I've equally stayed there for 10 days for less than £150. same entertainment etc.

I'd agree it is a premium over other times in teh season but for a family opf 2 adults and 3/4 kids I don't reckon its bad value. Show me where you can go abroad for that.
