It think it was 1960 - I remember because it was before I first married in 1961

The first episode of Coronation Street was broadcast on Friday 9th December 1960. My dad remembers it well. Ken Barlow has been in it from that day to this.

So he is good for buggar all apart from Corrie? Mind you that said it has been nice steady well paid employment for him.

He is carting on though and the only remaining one from the original cast. I remember the first programme, I'm sad to say. I remember, my Mum, Nana and my brother all sitting in our Holland Street house being well engrossed. I was nine at the time.

Strangely enough, the next thing which I remember us sitting glued to was the death of President Kennedy.

Everyone is supposed to remember where they were on that day,,but I dont,,,but i DO remember where i was when the Queens father King george the 6th died , i was in the playground at school and all the teachers were crying,,,That was in 1952
