It doesn't just affect our transport it affects shopping costs because food etc has to be transported.

You are damn right there willow. What used to be a £6 box of washing powder has shot up to £9 this week .......... It is a real worry about where it is going to end....

my friend who is a truck driver told me today that not so long ago it took around £1500 to fill his waggon up and the last time he filled up this week it cost £2007

he has to fill his waggon three times a week

no wonder foods shooting up so much when it costs so much to deliver it

wonder if any other tanks are going to be raided? Its no use for going in cars or vans anyway because its red diesel - can only be used for agricultural use. Ok yes in Northern Ireland there was quite a few that got caught using it on the roads

Maybe you should buy local produce too. We live amongst farmers, not in the middle of the city.

I know some farmers - live five minutes from me - by the way - they dont grow potatoes or veg - so how can i buy from them?

blazey, I buy my meat from a farmer, I buy my milk and egs from a farmer. Please tell me Which farmer I can buy the rest of my shopping from as you seem to know something I don't.

For goodness sake girl, your a child and not a very well informed one at that. Come back with your throwaway comments when you actually have a clue.

Buying more from local farmers would reduce the amount of oil used at least. People seem to think that fuels just appear at the petrol pumps from nowhere. The higher it costs, the less we want to use it, the longer it lasts. Or at least that is the idea.

It makes sense if you actually think about the long terms things rather than want and need. There are ways EVERYONE can cut down on using energy. There isn't really an excuse, and to be honest I would happily suggest plenty of tax on cars rather than fuels, because then at least public transport and the HGV and all those more necessary things wouldn't be affected, but there would be nothing but whinging if the businesses were exempt from 'my' tax, regardless of how much it benefited people.

I'll refer to it as 'my' tax seen as I suggested it. I assume some of you care about the future generations. Obviously its going to still be affecting me whilst your all dead in your graves in years to come, so I'm more willing to suggest anything to use less/save more energy just for the sake of at least suggesting something. Better than signing pointless petitions anyway about fuel costs.

And how would you address the problem of vehicles that are on the road untaxed......the people who tax their cars pay for these people...and if the car is untaxed there is a very good chance that it isn't insured either...and probably unroadworthy......not eco friendly either.

And as for the petition being useless...that may very well be the case, but maybe some of the recent events have made some of our politicians focus a bit more on the concerns of the people they are supposed to be representing.

The issue is that we are still finding huge amounts of oil all over the world (antarica is one place that is only just being explolred in any real amount). we have no real idea how long its going to last but I would be happy to say its got more than 20 years worth left.

There is also the train of thought that if we are going to use it up anyway we will need to find a solution other ways so lets just get on with that now. solar is one form that quite simply doesn't and will never get the amount of investment untill we are in real danger of having no oil. similarly wind power technology is in its infancy. give teh technology time to improve and become more efficent and I genuinely thing we will see solar and wind harnesses on teh majority of houses. Its a simple matter then of teh electrical innovations making cars etc that can run from this energy.

We(humans) are extremely resourceful things and teh advances in science and technology over just the last 50 or 60 years alone tells me that in ~200 years they will be looking back wondering what all the fuss was about.

The tax on fuel has nothing to do with 'making it last longer' or any other environmental issue. it is purely to prop up this white elephant of a goverment who are spending like imelda marcos in a shoe shop.
