I don't think you lot get another chance.

It's straight in the celestial lift, and the only options are up or down.

Tough luck.

Re: I'm coming back as a civil servant

same old same old

what is a civil servant? one of these privilaged minorities who pronce up and down the country at taxpayers expense or someone who is stuck in the "new satanic mills" of a benefit call centre?

Similiarily to the banking industry where it seems that most who work for a bank are seen as being on lush opulent bonus schemes rather than stuck behind a window dealing with the increasingly irate public who are having to wait longer and longer because jobs are being slashed at an alarming rate its a question of perception

Like the private sector what your terms and conditions are in the civil service depends what postion you hold in the organisation. Many jobs are now deskilled to an alarming degree (you could say a trained chimp could do them ..but it quit due to lack of interest) and increasingly within the civil service there is a sharp division being drawn between the management who need to reduce staffing levels as soon as possible and the drones who see the steady erosion in the quality of service being offered to the public.

all I am sayiing is dont believe everything you read about life in the public services its not all cups of tea and first class travel

thank you..apologies for dragging the soap box out...but the common belief that civil servants lead lives of unpressured privilege and ease...somehow immune from the civil evils of the current economic climate is just plain wrong

Re: I'm coming back as a civil servant

The vast majority of civil servants don't get perks, so don't condemn them all by the actions of a corrupt few.
The ones involved are positioned at the top and have taken their cue from Whitehall politicians. "If the minister does it it must be OK"
