Morbid Thoughts Views and Actions

"The End is Nigh"
Remember those old sandwich boards?
A much loved American philosopher once said "Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours."
Lately I have been meeting with members of the legal profession to plan for:
What if you lose your health?
What if you lose your life?
What if you lose your marbles?
I have already hit an age where several Doctors, Dentists and Barbers have retired or died in office. So now when I find a new professional provider I start by evaluating their projected date of retirement versus my projected date of expiration. I don't want to go through this every five years or so.
I find myself dividing my memories into three categories:
1. My childhood and youth in England that I can recall with great clarity.
2. My middle history roaming the world in conflict and in peace. Memories becoming less clear with intermingled casts, characters and locations.
3. Recent memories, Ask me what I had for breakfast...(No Clue)
Since Covid I have lost any desire to travel. I do not wish to see the inside of another airport in my lifetime.
I used to live like a shark, always moving forward, always looking for the next challenge or experience.
Now, thanks to these lawyers, I feel like I am driving with the handbrake on. I still move forward but at reduced velocity.
Thank God for my Grandchildren who love their Grandad and his tales of riding bikes without helmets or rollerskating without elbow pads, knee pads and helmets. They think I am an old Wild Man.
Yours,
Morbid Ol' Joe

I do not think any of those things are morbid.
You are being realistic and making plans for those uncomfortable ‘what ifs’.
But now having those plans in place…forget them and do what pleases you every day….whatever that is(with the caveat ‘as long as it is legal and hurts no one’)

When we are young we never think of this planet without us being on it.
But when we get older we are forced into accepting that one day we will be called for….and there will be no putting this off.

I enjoyed your post so MoreJoe…please can we have more Joe?

Re: Morbid Thoughts Views and Actions

MoreJoe, facing up to things and putting everything in order is not being morbid it is being practical and sensible. It also shows you care about your family. Now once the paperwork has been taken care of file it all away and forget about it. Go on enjoying life and especially those grandchildren. Tell them tales of the adventures you have had so that they will be able to pass these on to their children. It’s no use wasting time thinking and worrying about things we have no control over, so go on enjoying life.

By the way, I don’t blame you for not wanting to travel any more, who would want to with all the happenings that are going on.

Joe, the above post could have been written about me, especially about the memory side of it, on the day I was born in 1947 I can still remember leaving my mothers womb and saying "thanks Mum" but as for what what happened yesterday or last week no idea.
A couple of weeks ago I had a brain scan done, yes they did find one but I received a letter later asking if it would be o/k for an Occupational Therapist to call at my home in order to give me a clinical assessment, she is due to arrive this Friday, thankfully my Missus, (sorry Ladies) I mean Good Lady, will be here to help me out as she has been doing since we met over 60 years ago.
Yours's a 76 year old forgetful old Taddy.

Re: Morbid Thoughts Views and Actions

I hope all goes well for you on Friday, Taddy, I’m sure you will be fine. I thought it might interest you to know that after I had some tests done a couple of years ago the doctor wrote on the report that I was ‘neurologically unremarkable’. I bet that doesn’t come as a surprise to many people.

Thank you for that Dotti, I hope that "my scan" has come up with "Neurologically Unremarkable", and thank you for spelling it for me.
