Speed Humps

How does LCC decide which roads deserve to have speed humps and which don't?

I ask because my neighbour has been fighting to get speed humps on our road as visitors to the riding stables use it as a rat run ... very often being way over 30mph while our kids ride their bikes or play ball in the street like all other kids.

He's just been told that it's way to expensive and ain't going to happen yet Ormerod Street have just had all there's re-done. Does a child have to die before any speed restrictive measures are put in place?

Re: Speed Humps

Can’t help because I don’t know, but I do know the area and I can see where you’re coming from. I think there have been a few near misses over the years; it is quite a short avenue which rises sharply from ******* **** which shortens it even more, the side street and the lane don’t help matters when kids are playing or are on bikes, again I have personal experience of being in a near miss as a child and speeds where much lower then.

As a driver I find speed humps to be an irritant but I appreciate the need for them with today’s traffic not to mention the idiots on the road, I’m sure you’re not an idiot and the most people that use the avenue the get down to the stables will be cautious, but there’s always those who think it will never happen to them.

Have you considered getting the local Bobbie to lend you a hand held speed gun to assist you in your approach to the council? Why not make it a street affair and get people on the road at peak times with a few “slow down or **** off” placards, get the Observer up and get some coverage. Just a thought.

Re: Speed Humps

Tinks good to see you back! Have you given up on second life or have you decided to have a break?

Anyway as this is what i understand. First of all the residents have to want it - the majority of them. The police have to agree to it as well. There also has to have a reason for it and the road has to be suitable for speed bumps. What you are better off doing is contacting your county councillor. They will be able to tell you more.
