The re-cycling of Huncoat

Lancashire County Council are at it again. Not content with siting one of the biggest landfill sites in the the county on Huncoat's doorstep, which hosts the waste from Manchester, Bolton, and even Liverpool as well as our own bits and pieces, They have decided that we are going to have to play host to a brand new Waste Technology Park.

This is a facility which will take waste from the whole of the county and compost, recycle and package it for resale. It will be built on the site of the former Huncoat Power Station and will be accessed from the A56 on a new road built across greenbelt land which is used as a green corridor by much of the areas wildlife, especially Deer. Yes, we do have them in the neighbourhood and to come upon one of these shy creatures in the early mornings is a rare and special treat.

Apparently 11 other sites were originally considered but Huncoat has emerged as the favoured option. So Huncoat is to be crapped on yet again and sandwiched between a massive and expanding landfill site and the biggest waste treatment plant in the entire county. Aren't we lucky! You can almost hear the property prices falling through the floor.

Re: The re-cycling of Huncoat

is this supposed to be bringing MORE MONEY to the borough a/b?, if so then will they refurbish all the derelict houses up there? or are they (h.b.c) going to loose the money as soon as they get it? it has always seemed such a waste to let those houses lie empty.

Re: The re-cycling of Huncoat

Is the use of the word "Park" supposed to make it sound more appealing?

Mind you if this takes as long to get off the ground as the Zeri project we probably won't have to worry about it in our lifetimes

Re: The re-cycling of Huncoat

I really don't see how this will bring money into the borough. Since most of any jobs created by the project will be filled by outside construction companies and the plant will be staffed mostly by people who live outside the borough.

The project is supposed to be at the planning stage and awaiting the results of public consultaion, but there are men in flourescent jackets already crawling all over the site.

It looks to me that we are going to get this whether we like it or not and we are going to get it sooner rather than later. So much for open government and the democratic process.
