Total respect for postmen (and women)

I've just completed the first delivery of my leaflet to about 2/3s of the houses in Ossy. I have always respected postmen and women because it is a thankless job but until you do a leaflet drop you don't realise quite how much you have to praise them for.

For a start there's no direct route around the town so you have to keep doubling back on yourself - you'd have to be very fit to walk that every day.

Then there's the amount of houses that clearly don't want to receive mail - letter boxes near the ground or too small or too springy or, the worst, with that fly catcher stuff behind it.

Add to that the odd dog or two snapping at your hand.

So, all hail our postmen and women! Thank you!

Re: Total respect for postmen (and women)

My mum was a postwoman for several years, in fact she was Hyndburn's first postwoman. Those bags that they carry are heavy...... She has recently retired due to ill health, but most of the time she enjoyed her job. I never envied her having to walk miles with the heavy bag when it was snowing or raining hard......

I don't know what you are complaining about Gayle. You had your two little helpers, plus when I heard my letter box rattle, you got to see me in my dressing gown, when I popped out to say hello to you.

For 'helpers' read 'hinderers'. Yes, love the dressing gown - very Noel Coward at that time of day!

Sorry I didn't stop to chat but I had a lot of ground to cover. I've just been out again to do another area so I reckon I've covered about 80% of my 'patch'. The rest can wait until tomorrow now!

Re: Total respect for postmen (and women)

I think my postie is brilliant. Never complains about all my ebay parcels he has to deliver to me. He knows i have hearing problems so he just opens my door and places my parcels in the hallway. Other posties would just post a card through the door for me to go and collect from the sorting office if i didnt hear them knock.

Re: Total respect for postmen (and women)

I know what your talking about Gayle - i've been delivering leaflets every year since for hmmmmm years - too ****** long lol except mine goes from rising bridge to helmshore with all of haslingden thrown in as well! Got it down to a fine art now - we know which letterboxes trap your fingers, dogs are behind just waiting for you to post through, which ones you have to bend down and which ones if you post it through they come to the door and nab you and either give you what for and start arguing or will vote for you.
