Re: october meet ?

The Railway is more accessible, and I dont drink ale.
But if it becomes a tied result you can discount my vote because I am never more than a 'maybe' until the day arrives

Not sure we'll make it so I'm not voting because that wouldn't be fair. If I was voting I'd go for the Accy one though.

I don't do Town centre much nowadays (probably 25 years too old anyway :D )

Therefore I think it would be fitting if we did actually have a meet in Accrington, and that's what I've voted for.:)

The railway pub has changed a lot!! I have been in twice in as many weeks, and I quite like it!!

It also has a large beer garden, with canopy over it and great heaters, for the smokers!! The beer garden would actually cater for ALL the members, it's that big.

I mean't to say that earlier Slinky, think people are thinking back to when it was a nightclub and there was always fighting. Not like that now and it is nice.

LOL .. thought Cashy for the minute hadn't made it on his hols 'til I remembered the last post when there is a poll, credits the time to that person before you enter the thread, when in fact it is just someone voting.

Hope to attend meself wherever it is, just that there is a luchtime 'do' next day and would have to be for a couple of hours. Problem is, can I discipline myself to just a few Bacardis and Cokes ? Would take strong will power

Hi everyone,

I'll most probably be attending me first meet on the 27th if at Railway.

If however it's at Gt., Harwood it will depend on whether I can find the pub, as I don't know Gt., Harwood at all.

They have spent thousands doing a refit and have a very good smoking area, the landlord has kindly put food on for us and he is also donating some prizes to the photo competition,
The place is very nice inside you could at least give it a try before commenting:)

1) Only one real ale (i.e.only one choice of beer)

2) Lousy decor - the usual tacky attempt to make a sports bar out of a pub. Its the same rubbish on the walls as that in the Thorn and the Brewers, two other once good pubs now ruined.

3) Poor bar service. I gave up waiting and went round the back to chat to Mick for 10 minutes or so, before returning for a pint.

4) Lousy regulars - no one appeared to know what a queue was at the bar or at least who was next to be served.

All in all, an unfortunate experiance . Prior to a month ago, I think I was last in there in 1979; I doubt if I shall enter it again in my lifetime.

There, there, that's better .. that is helpful. Not bothered re. the ale meself.
Yes, the bar staff weren't quite as alert as they should be, only one lady there at times, but the lad who served the butties was great.

Find most MEN are rude in a busy pub when it comes to obtaining their ale anyway. Been overlooked many times by the bar staff in favour of someone with a longer arm/louder voice than me.

Decor, didn't bother me .. just looked at it as ambience, not being interested in sport .. as we remarked, would be more of a problem for the owner when he came to redecorate ..

Maybe we could appoint you as our official pub critic Tealeaf .. mmmmm yeh, will start you out in The Bridge, Accy first methinks :D:D
