I'll try and come along. Its a shame its not in Oak Hill Park, a much better venue I feel.

We will be back at Oakhill park again, hopefully next year, but we couldn't go there this year for a couple of reasons.

Not my cup of tea, I wish we just had the music concert at Oakhill and not this Mela crap.

Well its not my cup of tea either, but I wouldn't call it crap, some people like things like that, others might think its crap watching Liverpool:D

Mmm I didnt realize that it was only ever going to be a mela - i thought it alternated each year - I am all for intergration not segragation etc but i think a celebration called Mela does segragate a lot of people and discourage them from coming - I just dont know what is wrong wqith a "party in the park" that celebrates many different culturesx
and all this has probably been said before so sorry but a hell of a lot of peopple feel the same.

What a good idea, one year music (not asian) then one year a mela. We could then gradually phase out the mela bit and go back to having music in the park like it used to be, but of course this would never happen as funding would not be made available would it Gayle.:(

I wouldnt want for the asian music to be omitted from the celebrations at all i think it is fantastic
but i have a lot of friends from the Asian and non asian community who dont go because it is called a Mela and they expect racist people will go to make trouble just because of its name - so they just dont go .

We have a very diverse community in accrington alone - Polish, Chinese, British, Thai, carribean - just to name a few of these cultures - so if that is what we are celebrating then lets have music and crafts from all of these cultures i think it would be fantastic.
