Sorry to be a nuisance, but in the interests of a better response - please can we have the option added
'any of the four dates'

I should be back the weekend of the 29th November. It is far to early for a Christmas meet, but if any of you lot want to buy me a pint, that's OK with me.

I'd hope I'll be around on the Saturday, not sure what date I'll be home from Uni so the Friday is iffy.

Edit: Oh dear, its Saturday the 29th of Nov... Friday is best for me if I'm back. :D

I'm happy with any of the dates.

Although I'd love to be there, I'm sorry I can't say for definite, as it depends if it's a good, or a bad, day.:o

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

Why all the pressure for at least 25 to turn up?

I have said it before but I don't mind saying it again - why does it matter if 5 or 25 turn up? As long as you know a few of your friends are going to the pub for a drink and a chat then what is the problem?

I will not vote on this one. Whenever the meets are I turn up if I am free and don't if I am not.

I do miss the monthly meets, not to see loads of people there but just the usual regulars. As I work shifts I can not often turn up to them - I do when I can though.

I can prob do any of the saturday meets, but have picked the 13th as that is the only saturday where there is no footy..couldn't put all four dates as can't do the original friday date...

I am with Neil though I am happy if only a few turn up as its just nice to meet up with anyone off here and have a laugh, whether its 6 or 60

me also, aint bothered how many turn up, never had a bad night, companys always good.:)

derekgas 18-11-2008 07:29

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

if there is a big turn out, there usually ends up groups of people anyhow, politics table, football table, smokers table (outside), bar propper uppers, and minglers! It isnt like everybody sits around the round table! Are the numbers in the vote a true reflection anyway, certain people are kind of expected (Mick, Mez etc) so do they vote?

Mick 18-11-2008 07:34

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

yes we do Derek:D
The thing is our very first meet way back in Oct 2004 9 members came to that meet
and we have had some great meets since especially the Christmas meets where we have had 40 plus turn up
so you would expect a reasonable turnout to support Accyweb not just 10
It seams the decline in members coming to meets was when the Stag pub closed.
we had some great meets in there if you check the gallery and look at the Christmas meets in there we all had a great time.
we have always said new members are welcome and hope they will come to these meets.
but as numbers are falling it just does not seam worth carrying on with them.
As for Food at the meets
Mez and me used to pay for it if there was a short fall members saying they where coming we ordered the food and they would not turn up
so we started using football cards to get money for the food but even that left me and mez out of pocket
so we got fed up of it and decided not to do food unless we got the money in advance but like this meet only 3 members want it so its not worth doing so there will be no food at the Christmas meet.
one Christmas (see Gallery) me and mez bought a present for every member and dressed up to give them out it was great fun back then.
but things have changed sadly for the worse

cashman 18-11-2008 07:56

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

understand were yer coming from mick, as i know you n mez have to mess about organising em, an idea could be to just announce a get- together in a pub so ya don't need to mess about sorting out. then if 9 come or 29 it dont matter, dont think any landlord will object these days to a party of new drinkers.:)

derekgas 18-11-2008 07:59

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

Much of what yourself and Mez do is a thankless task, but I for one appreciate both of your hard work, it is a shame, though not much of a surprise that you have come to feel this way, with the closure of pubs, money being tight etc, I think many have forgotten how to socialise, what better way than a meet up at christmas to re-educate the brain! So if the meet is on, whatever day, I will be in attendance.

Mick 18-11-2008 08:03

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

This meet will be on no matter how many turn up but its making us think about any more

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

Have voted 6th Dec, only date we aren't working

Caz 18-11-2008 08:44

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

I'm in total agreement with Neil on this.
Haven't been to a meet for a long while for one reason or another, but don't see why It can't just be a get together. If a few core members of Accyweb are meeting up anyway, just announce this, then anyone who is free and wants to go will get there.

Some can't guarantee to be there totally because they don't know for sure what will be happening on a certain date..family/work commitments/location of venue... so don't vote anyway.

I know Mick and Mez have worked hard organising stuff in the past, but surely just meeting friends for a drinks is as good, and less stressful for them? :)

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

One of the most enjoyable meets for me was in Baxenden.

There was Mick, Anne, Mr and Mrs Cashy, Mr and Mrs Entwisi, and Katex.

I had a really good natter with each and every one.

I've been to meets which were really well attended, and when I've got home realised that I never got the chance to speak to 75% of the people there, besides waving and mouthing hello.

Size isn't everything, though I totally agree that no one should be out of pocket, but then again I go to the meets to talk to folk, have a drink, and not feed my fat little face.:D

By the way, I'm not demeaning the enormous effort I know both Mick and Mez have put in to making the Accy Web meets fun.

It's just that I've enjoyed the small ones as much as the really well attended ones.

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

right you lot, a bit of a moan from me now .................... do you realise the size of the

room in the brewers BIG now it will look odd with about 9 of us in there 7ish outside

smoking & 2 keeping each other company ........

i actually thought of planning to do a theme ..as we have done before, after all its a

christmas meet.. festive , happy ... well we myself & mick just get flack & moans so its tough,

, no theme & i for one don't care if you turn up or not cos as the voting is going .. there are more attending than the last

thread on this vote .........tell you what ..i hope its on the 19th cos i won't be there im off on my hols abroad .

Blimey, this is getting sadder than when Tiny Tim thought there'd be no goose for Christmas.:D

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

Well people are really gonna want to come after reading your post mez! :D

I've organised quite a lot of day trips and a few evening meets in the past and I've just put the time, date and location (plus agenda if needed) and then turn up. You always get people saying they'll be there and then not coming (and vice versa) but I always ran the day and/or event as it was listed and that was it!!

If I didn't work saturdays I would have said any of the dates. If it ends up on a saturday then I'll be sorry to miss the meet but it can't be helped.

I guess what I'm saying mez is scratch the vote, just pick a date and people will either like it or lump it!! :D

Caz 18-11-2008 17:06

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

Deja vous. Seem to have been here many, many moons ago, when people didn't attend a certain meet, and were made to feel guilty about it later. That's not fair. :(

People will either turn up or not, and even if they say they hope be there, other commitments tend to get in the way.

Often the most spontaneous meets are best. Remember Roy trying to set fire to the Stag, lol! :D

MargaretR 18-11-2008 17:18

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

A Christmas meet does not need to resemble a Christmas party in order to be a success.
An overcrowded room with loud music is not my idea of fun.
Being able to hold a conversation without shouting makes the whole excercise of meeting newbies and old friends more pleasant.

Was that when he turned the whole table into a candle just before it closed?

Mick 19-11-2008 09:18

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

That was not a spontaneous meet it was the closing of the stag that was posted on site
it was more like spontaneous combustion:dflam:

Caz 19-11-2008 09:46

Re: Dates For Xmas Meet

It was spontaneous for me, didn't know about it till the night before, I think it was, (?) at the do, and hadn't seen it advertised, apologise for the error. :)
