Theme Parks

Have just been looking at the price of theme parks and cant beleive the price of blackpool pleasure beach now. It would cost me more to take the boys to the pleasure beach than alton towers (and thats including fuel costs) I was very shocked at the prices now. Its not something I have really looked at for a few years with the boys being young but now they are getting to the age where they might start enjoying things like this i thought I would price it up but really am surpised at how much the prices have all shot up.

Re: Theme Parks

gullivers world is good, i took ty there when he was about the boys age, was thinking of going again this year (thats not me asking for a lift if you go, we wouldnt fit :D)

Re: Theme Parks

i think i paid £40 for two wrist bands for me and Reece at the pleasure beach last year, what with that, the price of food and drinks, the train fare....it comes to a hell of a lot

i usually takes butties but you know what its like, they always want something different when they get there

i have a few 2 for 1 vouchers here Emma but i dont think they'll be suitable for the boys, unless you go to the Sealife centre or Thorpe Park or Alton Towers

emzy 06-04-2009 08:49

Re: Theme Parks

Alton towers dont charge until the child turns 4, pleasure beach charge from the age of 2. I might take you up on that flashy, will have to work the finances out first though (may be more than just me and the boys going if we do go anywhere)

Re: Theme Parks

well thats even better, the more that go, the more you get in free lol

casper is picking some up this morning, i think she only wants 4, so i should have about 8 left if you want them

Re: Theme Parks

IIRC tesco clubcard vouchers can be used and you get 3-4x their face value.

I think its terrible that you can't just have a wander round now. I like just wandering and often chuck a few quid in fruit machines etc. now I won't be bothering.

IIRC Southport did the same just before it went bankrupt...............

flashy 06-04-2009 08:56

Re: Theme Parks

if your going into town today Emma, i got these tickets from W H Smiths, they are on the counter(well they where in Blackburn anyway), might be cheaper getting them from Accy instead of wasting petrol coming over here

If you want to go somewhere a bit different and it is free for under 4's try

The Forbidden Corner - The Strangest Place In The World

I took my two a few times when they were younger and even though they are nearly adults they still talk about it saying what a magical place it is. In such beautiful surroundings too.

Be warned there are a couple of parts that small children may get a bit scared but with reassurance or avoidance it will be fine :D

You get a map when you enter and you have to try and discover all the hidden things and solve the riddles... to be honest I absolutely loved the place and would be happy to go back there without kids

And after saying all that I even broke my kneecap falling last time (don't ask!!) and still I love the place

We are massive clubcard voucher users, they save us a fortune, South Lakes Animal Park, SeaLife centre, Blackpool Tower, Muncaster Castle,Alton Towers and loads of free meals out.......

I think you have to not go overboard on the facilities with 2 year olds Emzy .. think they would enjoy a different playground in a park more than a big theme park. Although some theme parks do have features for younger members, think you would be wasting money. Ribchester used to be quite good, and Heaton Park.

Pipinfort mentioned Blackpool, used to be Jungle Jims which was quite good, not sure if still there, but you would have to watch where they are going at all times .. :D

From, on the one occasion I had the pleasure of meeting them, they are a lively duo, and feel better in open spaces, rather than crowded theme parks.

Wanted to take them somewhere special as a treat lol but know what you mean, I need eyes in the back of my head sometimes. They are more than happy going to a park or soft play centre but dont like it when its overcrowded. Was also thinking along the lines of south lakes animal park or similar. Just wanted somewhere different for a change lol. And yes they are very lively at times :D

My two love it there. We go a couple of times a year.

Gulliver's Warrington is very good because it caters for very young children and it's not ridiculously expensive. It's best to get there by car, though, as it's out of town.

Is Camelot still open? I haven't been there since I took my grandson when he was 12 and he's now 23. It was OK but a bit run-down even then.

Re: Theme Parks

forbidden corner has loads of wide open spaces, and the views are amazing but can understand that at two they probably wouldn't understand it and there is quite a lot of walking to do and they wouldn't appreciate the puzzles you are set as you go round... it is absolutely brill in fact I think I might just go back soon for a nostalgic visit after looking at their website again :)

Re: Theme Parks

have to say south lakes was a big fave with us too.. One year we even bought season tickets and went loads of times and got more than our money's worth. Nice drive up, although it's a bit of a trek with two small un's unless they fall asleep at the sound of your car engine then treat it as a nice drive WITH some peace and quiet :D

onlyme 07-04-2009 05:00

Re: Theme Parks

Gullivers is great but I will never go back there after they charged my young un the same price as a 12 year old when we went for his 3rd birthday, just because he was tall. if you're under xxx cm its one price, over its another price)

I explained that he wasnt even 3 (couple of days short) and wouldnt be going on half the rides anyway due to his age so why should he be charged the same about as a 12 year old. Just thought it was a blatant rip off

Don't know whether you have got the Observer yet Accylass, but insert in there advertising a 'Noise' Exhibition at Haworth Art Gallery, starting tomorrow 'till 25th May.

Billed as the noisiest art exhibition coming to Hyndburn ... LOL.

6 months >> 100 Years !.. admission free.

Sounds fun ... I think ....
