Ahhh the 80's, my favourite time, remember new years eve 1979 and the show kick up the 80's to bring the new year in.  Remember going to see Hazel O'Connor in Breaking Glass at the piccies and thinking she was soooo cool. Gary Numan in concert, Soft Cell, Japan, Siouxie and the Banshees, Spandau Ballet and many many more, didn't have a favourite band would listen to anything and still do.  Had a great time in the 80's, as a new school leaver (1984)  but having an even better time now, it's great to remenisce though. :-*

Littlemo, have very fond memories of Lar de Dars, and having to get up for school the day after. Was supposed to be for over 25's when it first opened but we always used to get in (I've always looked haggered) ::)  My dad once caught me up there and went mad [smiley=cursing.gif]

New Era was cool in the early 80's and all the new romantic stuff. Went to see Human League last year, and they are still brilliant. Kim Wilde was playing and Altered Images they were quite good. Dollar, Visage, Belle Stars and 5 Star were also playing, and they were so bad they were funny [smiley=lol.gif]

jason 14-10-2003 21:34

Loved Depeche Mode and OMD, but never got to see them live. Went to see Madness, Squeeze, Soft Cell, Numan, also saw Erasure down at London Docklands but that was in January 1990, so doesn't really count. Love 80's music, but really will listen to anything, have a very varied collection of stuff, ranging from Nat King Cole and Nina Simone to the Manics. I rarely get time to listen to my cd's they mainly gather dust, but would not part with any of them. ;D

Thought you might have been, as you seem quite knowledgeable about music.  80's will always stick in my mind, as I was becoming old enough to be interested in music, dancing, make - up, and generally loafing about and having a good time. Went to school with a few hangovers, and how I ever passed any exams is beyond me. Will always have a soft spot for 80's music. ;D

The 80's were crap - I slept through it all- if you wanted decent music, proper clothes (i.e. real flares, not like this nonsense the kids wear today) and a good time there was only one place to be  - the '70's.

janet 15-10-2003 10:01

Got to like Paul young in the 80's.Before it was all heavy rock.Deep purple and Rainbow and the likes.must have started getting mellow in the 80's. LOL! Left Blighty in 1982 to make my way in Europe. Will admit one thing though.Wherever you get on the continent its English speaking groups that make the top 5 all the time.

Tealeaf is a sweetie, he does things like this to wind you up, he's a very naughty boy. If we see him at the christmas party I'll make sure there's 80's music on the jukebox all night. The 80's are important and significant to us, cos that's when we were growing up, I'm sad I missed the 60's and I was too young to appreciate the 70's (loved Bay city rollers though) Most of my brilliant memories are from the 80's

I'll give you a  [smiley=kiss.gif]  big kiss if I see you at the party tealeaf and a couple of dodgers, but you have to save some for Anne. ;D

Re: 1980'S BOARD

bea smith-Not long ago nobody wanted to know about former Prisoner star Val Lehman.  But like a fine wine, her appeal has grown with age.
The actress, who played 'Top Dog' Bea Smith, is currently enjoying a renaissance Down Under thanks to a regular segment on a talk show in which she talks about antiques.

Val, who now runs a bric-a-brac shop, has become such an authority on antiques that there's talk that she might front an Aussie version of the Antiques Roadshow.

....well i never....antiques hey!

Remember watching Kenny Everett video show with Sid Snot and Gizzard Puke.
Remember the first series of Blackadder,
The Golden Girls
French and Saunders
Films included  - Gremlins, Ghoulies, St Elmo's Fire, Ghostbusters

Some great comedy came out of the 80's.

Tealeaf 16-10-2003 10:06

Re: 1980'S BOARD

"Great" is a relative term, i.e. immensely better, stronger or whatever than the norm.

The stuff (lets call it culture) that came out in the 60's and 70's can be called truly great in comparison to what proceeded it: What came out in the the 1980's was meaningless drivel in contrast to the 60s/70/s and to discuss it's merits is like discussing your favouite colour of toilet paper.

Nevertheless, you do have my sympathies. Anyone who "grew up" in the 80's deserve all the TLC they can get

[smiley=cool.gif]

I do realise that

Re: 1980'S BOARD

i suppose people have their own opinion on the era that they liked or disliked.....this board is the 1980's and a lot of people on the forum grew up in the 80's.like i keep saying if you enjoyed the 80's then post, but i dont think people should be castigated for loving the 80's......if you enjoyed the 70's then go and start a board on the 70's,if you enjoyed the 60's then go and start a board on the 60's,and leave us new romantics to it!

Ihave to say that i love all kinds of music, 60s music sticks in my mind the most because i was a teenager then, but i have allways kept up with the times.I love all kinds of clubland music, my nieces and nephews love it that i buy the same type of music as them.Just because you are getting older does'nt mean you have to stick in the past. moving with the times is what keeps you young. ;D

lettie 16-10-2003 21:26

Re: 1980'S BOARD

I will......but I shall depart this 80's one with this observation:

Mathematical Theory, specifically that pertaining to Random Numbers, says that if a million monkeys sit down at a million typewriters for a million years, one of them will produce the complete works of William Shakespear

The same theory states none of them will produce one word in relation to that crap masquerading as music and films from the 1980's.

I rest my case.

Ooooh Chips,
Was determined to marry Eric Estrada [smiley=mar.gif] never mind, he would've probably turned out to be a git anyway. Me and my sisters used to play at Charlie's Angels when we weren't singing into our hairbrushes. Took my youngest sister who's only 13 to see Charlie's Angels 2, she doesn't remember the original, she didn't know there even was one. She loved the film, but I have to say, it was not as good as the series I watched as a kid. 8)

Who had a slinky?  You remember, those coiled spring thingies that used to walk down your stairs.

Also anyone remember slime?  The horrid green stuff in a tub, it always felt cold to touch and it would stick to stuff. I once put a blob of it into my hand and after coughing, showed it my mum, to try and get out of school. Told her I'd coughed it up.
Went to school with a thick ear. ;D
