At a party, whilst he was holding his small child, didn't really seem the right time to ask him.

He actually seems quite a nice bloke to me,too -you know him, I don't.

Perhaps his politics don't need much tweaking - just his self-esteem/assurance. Think back to the school playground -it's hard when you're the new boy and have to ty and fit in with the older ones who know the ropes...;):)
