Re: Useless Doctors
What could also be useful is keeping a diary of how you are feeling and looking for trends. It will also be useful for a doctor to see when it happens, but also its good for yourself. It will give you more of a sense of control if you can monitor what is happening to you.
So for example I get bad migraine visual problems (no headaches just my eyes go "funny" for about 1/2 hour). I kept a diary of when it happened and worked out it was caused by specific type of lights. I also found out that rather than taking prescription medicines, 2 Ibuprofen worked better. So whilst my doctor prescribed the migraine tablets, I actually found a better way myself. I now avoid wherever possible the specific lighting that sends me funny, but I can also recognise the symptoms before they happen. It just helps me to manage it. |

Re: Useless Doctors
When I saw the doc last Wednesday I was deflated by his diagnosis that I did not have vit B12 deficiency. I put on a B12 patch anyway(last Wednesday). I have noticed a marked improvement- no daytime sleepiness for last 2 days, and breathlessness is reduced.:D
I am due to see doc again in 2 weeks when xray results arrive and will be drawing his attention to - Vitamin B12 Deficiency by Jeffrey Dach MD No GP can be a specialist - and sometimes they resent your knowing too much, as if it presents a threat to their authority and competance. Persons who have researched B12 deficiency, will have seen that a blood test is unreliable, and a UMMA test of urine is recommended. When I asked him about having one, he looked puzzled and said 'You are not anaemic'. Even doctors with excellent reputations (as mine has) do not have the time to keep up to date with new findings in all areas of medicine. The proposed 5 year testing of GPs is an excellent idea. |

Hey Flashy - I didn't mean to take over this thread.

Re: Useless Doctors
lol your ok Margaret, i dont mind at all :)
Been for my results today, every one was fine, the tft was a bit low, its supposed to be 0.30 but mine was 0.28, nothing to be concerned about, i have to go back in 6 weeks to have the tft done again just incase its on its way down, the doctor still thinks my tiredness is due to me trying to come of my prozac, i was taking 20mg every other day so she has told me to go back on them everyday, i so want to come off them, but its obviously not going to happen anytime soon, i've been really down for the last few days too, i've managed to fall out with EVERYONE in my family and a few friends too, i hate feeling like this, all i do is sit and cry or get really angry and i know there is nothing at all i can do about it |
Re: Useless Doctors
i'm sure they understand its not your fault

Knowing is half the battle towards solving. I have no idea what 'tft' is - if I ever need to know I will ask you :D At the moment this old brain is overloaded with medical jargon about a different problem. We have a month to get well enough to stun them at the meet - see you there :) |
Re: Useless Doctors

Re: Useless Doctors
I'd have thought Prozac was more likely to make you feel dopey when taking it than when trying to cut down. I wonder if they have considered CFS or ME?
I never seem to get the same doctor twice together but this morning I saw Dr. Crook and he has got some more tests planned and going to discuss medication with the diabetes expert. He didn't seem to fob me off so much about the water retention and painful legs as others have done in the past. He seems quite keen to get to the bottom of it if he can. |
