A level playing field.

Part of the interest, and dare I say fun, of debating issues on here, whether they be daft or serious, was that all the players who took part played on a level playing field, so to speak. Everyone had an equal chance.

I've posted many times that every member has an equal right to air their point o view. Spelling, grammar, big words weren't a necessity to allow everyone who wanted to have their say, even if they were shot down in flames by everyone else. Their voice was heard.

I sadly believe this is truly not the case anymore, and that saddens me greatly.

Why do you say that? Has something been said or done?

As for spelling and grammar mine are terrible.

I know exactly what you mean, and the fact is you can't clearly say it for fear of 'rule breaking'.
I have had the same experience today that you have, and I am annoyed too.

Thank you.

I'm glad it's not just me that's noticed.

Though I'm not going off in a huff, that would be giving in to the injustice.

Neil, I fear I can't be anymore specific, because that would break forum rules.

Sadly as I've just posted I can't say what I'd really like to, because it would be breaking forum rules.;)

No drama.

Re: A level playing field.

I'm presuming a little but I reckon that Rindy is looking back to a couple of years ago when we did have some fun on this site. Everyone was able to comment without feeling pressured and even if it wasn't politically correct we read it and gave our opinion.

As for bad grammar, why does that affect things? We are mates, aren't we?

garinda 09-04-2009 23:39

Re: A level playing field.

Anyone see that film starring Sally Field called Sybil?

She had multiple personality disorder.

You know, were people have different characters, all living differing lives.

They refer to themselves in the third person, when speaking of other characters.

I heard there was a total ban on any reviews if the press, for fear of upsetting.....er, I don't really know.

It has changed, and not for he better.

Fun and humour are now something that's to be stamped on.

About four years ago someone accused this site or racism. At that time I vehemently defended the forum against that accusation. I'd certainly never seen any racist comments at that time. I pointed out that we were fairly well self policed, with any unacceptable behavioue being pounced on by other members, or reported, as the case may be.

There are racist posts on this forum now, as well as a lot of other nastiness.

It seems it is only humour that is being hounded from the place, as you pointed out, and that does sadden me.

What you mean we can't upset anyone anymore?

What the hell am I going to do if I can't upset Christians, Jews, Muslims, Catholics, JW's, dog owners, ethnic minorities, Politicians and Jam Butty?

Well, I must have been short changed in the brain department Garinda, haven't a clue what you are on about....

Seems everybody still speaks their mind on here and although not acknowledged in another post, I read lots of posts that I giggle over and speak out loudly to myself 'Good on ya!'. Think we did get told off (sortof) for putting up too long 'a quotes 'cause of computer issues.

Did actually notice that you have had a more serious head on recently, is this what it was about ? Although some brilliant witty posts from you in the last few days, so wasn't too worried.

Guess we will just have to get in the JBC to flatten out those mounds ... :D

That's up to you.

My only advice is if you're knitting an outfit again this year, use large needles, because times running out.

Just make sure you wear a vest this year.

Posts rarely get moderated, but when it happens the moderators nearly always get stick from someone, be that in a PM or creating a thread. The posts in question referred to another member as having a multiple personality disorder. We are supposed to be a friendly community, that's why we have moderation in place. It's no more 'funny' to make jest at somebody's sexuality or race, as it is their mental well being.

When someone posts in the third person, and apparently says they are issuing a statement on behalf of themselves, it all looks very odd, and a tongue in cheek reference to multiple personalities was quite apt, in my opinion.

You can bet your bottom dollar if the same humorous observation was made about someone else, Graham Jones for instance, it would have remained unedited.

The pathetic pettiness, and outlawing of any humour, is killing the fun of this site.

She had multiple personality disorder.

You know, were people have different characters, all living differing lives.

They refer to themselves in the third person, when speaking of other characters.

I heard there was a total ban on any reviews if the press, for fear of upsetting.....er, I don't really know.

I know what you mean too.......I was one of those people who had what I thought was a quite innocuous post deleted.

Its never changed.. it has ups and downs.. I was disgusted with the swastika avatars no matter what arguments where put forward to allow them...

I am proud of the fact that I got a zero tolerence rule against a certain word beggining with P to be enforced on accyweb ..

i give up bothering about it as i aint on no crusade.. it just means accyweb is a true reflection of hyndburn which is quite racist in itself.

Hows that? :)

I thought you got a P word banned:confused:
...obviously not this one - I find that more insulting than what was deleted yesterday on the grounds that it was 'insulting'

I agree with that MargaretR.

My feelings exactly. K-P's post is personal and insulting........and as such is against the rules of the forum.

I agree with the two lovely Margarets about the 'P' word! Second one that is, the first one referred to isnt an insult, it is I think, referring to a person from a certain country!

I work with a half Aussie reject - he tells me the P word as we are calling it is a common term in Australia and is used at a shortened version of Pakistani. Is that not what it means over here

Surely you have to add some other words with it to make it an insult.

Re: A level playing field.

ahh but neil we are all racists and this is a racist site typical of hyndburn which i see as been no different than any other part of the UK

with so many racists it makes you wonder why so many people try so hard to get into hyndburn yet alone the UK

well i suppose a soft arse benefit system helps but apart from that i couldnt see any attraction in been here if teh people of teh UK were such racists

im off to the local chinky for some egg flied lice for my supper

Re: A level playing field.

don't forget your 2p fock.

That reminds me of a story a bloke at work told me.

I work just outside Liverpool. He said a local Chinese has a high counter with just a small serving hatch, yes it is a nice place ;)

This guy did the usual thing of pulling the sides of his eyes and asking for egg flied lice in a pathetic Chinese accent. The Chinese looking bloke behind the counter put his fingers above and below his eyes and stretched them to be wide open and said in a strong scouse accent "get to flip" - well you know what I mean :D:D:D

i'll give ya my thoughts on this, Britain is in a mess socially, n one of the biggest reasons why,is numptys who call the word insulting/ racial, its that simple to me, never mind the pakistanis, we would be much better off if these people would "Sod Off" somewhere else.

Re: A level playing field.

seems simple to me...I don't call people P****.and I don't call people N******..I have used thoose terms and some still use em..but I know black people do not like to be called niggers or gollywogs.. so why would anyone want to use those names when we all know some people do not like them?.. I may call a mate a Aussie t*** but I would only do it if I knew the bloke did not take offence..I'll say again..would you call a black person a gollywog in thier face? or call someone a **** in the face?..if yes then good luck to you.. cos you may need it!

Mancie 11-04-2009 06:39

Re: A level playing field.

And to make things plain..if anyone called me a pommie bastard they would get a swift headbutt.take it or leave it.
