Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

3 Attachment(s)
I know Blacjkpool isnt everyones cup of tea and after many years of a rapid decline due to Hen and stags etc it was good to see that all the money and work they have ploughed into the resort over the last couple of years is finally paying off.

This week it has been heaving in the resort but today it was the Airshow and omg, the crowds were huge.

I cant remember every seeing blackpool so busy since I was really small and even then dont think I saw it like this.

Hope it can hold onto the crowds for years to come. Attachment 14348

I was there for the lights last October and it was well quiet. It's so nice to see that it's picking up now as I love Blackpool.

Thanks for posting the photos x

Long time sine I've seen the beach so busy, lets hope it carries on. I love Blackpool and when Ian's sister was here the other year it was a "must visit" place. We had a great day out over there, happy days:)

I agree its a great place I love it too. more so since the new sea front is materialising, It really is looking good. It was chocca from south pier to central. and that was just on the new sea defence steps . It was also like that on the prom it self , Just so great to see

glad its pickin up, we stayed twice this year n really enjoyed it.:) don't think it will ever be like the owd "Wakes Weeks" mel, cos no-one hardly could afford to go abroad then.:) think a minus is the fact they now charge to go on pleasure beach, think will prevent families wi kids goin to a degree, twas the death knell fer southport when they did it wi pleasureland.

We went to the Air Show today,The Red Arrows were brilliant as always,,,,We only went as far as Bispham but it was heaving there too...lovely weather too

Re: Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

In a way I agree cashy . I ve been against that charge from the start , however My lad got a 2 4 1 offer and took me down the other day and I couldnt believe just how busy it was in there.

everyone seemed happy to pay and all the rides were buzzin. makes me question if what they have done is right because its the first time ive been round and not been faling over gangs of little chavs spouting thier mouths off , so bonus on that line. keeps them out hence more family friendly.

They even put some water fountains in there so the kids can play as if they were on the beach
They were busy and the kids were lovin em. even got those walk in dryers too.

I was pretty impressed to say the least.

I would never have payed had my lad not had the offer . as it happened it was a cheap day for us . Still I do agree it does kybosh it a little for those of us who did just enjoy walking round.

Be interesting to see if it stays or not.

they do charge a fiver to get into the Pleasure beach now but you do get a couple of things for this charge, you get to go on the monorail and go around the maze and i think there is also something else you get free when you pay the entrance fee, its not like Southport where you got naff all for your entry fee

Re: Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

We went up to the cliffs at Bispham, quite a few people up there as well drifting back and forth. I can’t understand how some people could walk away when the Arrows are up.

The weather was really good for a change, (its ****ing down today). With the Sun and the sea breeze I managed to get my face sunburnt which is still stinging particularly where I burnt my lip which as now split.

The display was short of a few RAF aircraft this year; it just shows how committed we are overseas. But what was there was excellent, Pride and Tears at the Lanc and her play mates and to see a Vulcan in the air again is fantastic.

Barrie Yates 10-08-2009 15:31

Re: Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

Bought our first house there in '77 while still in the RAF - fantastic place to live. Left in
'03 when it was probably at it's lowest ebb. Town full of yobs, Hen and Stag parties staggering around before lunch time it really had become the pits. Went back for a few days just a few eeks ago - what a change I saw, most of it for the best - but the bomb site that was Yates's Wine Lodge and on the other corner from the Fleece and the new architecture on Birley St?, That saddened me. The other thing I missed were the fish & chip shops -Where have they all gone?
But nice to see it picking up again.

Re: Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

lived there myself fer a few years, left 97, has certainly improved since then.

cherokee 10-08-2009 20:10

Re: Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

It is improving all the time. Certainly come along way since when we first moved here some years back.

I think for those that havent been in a while then its def worth a visit if only to see the Prom changes. Think Birley st and up by the winter gardens will be good when completed too.

The street lighting is quite impressive at night too in town.

Still got the hen and stags but no where near as bad as used to be since cameras went up through town . also heavily policed at weekends now.

IMO All changes for the better,

jesus christ they charge just for walking into the dump now

i know you have to pay to get into alton towers but it has a much better class of rides for starters and a lot cleaner infact beter value for money all round

Buy a Pleasure Beach Pass for only £5 per person
Entitles you to enjoy the ambience of the park, ride on the Pleasure Beach Express, Chinese Puzzle Maze, South Beach Show and our new Spectacular Dancing Water Show
wow £5 to get a nostril full of fecis a walk around a decrepid maze and an oprtunity to watch a show you probably have no interest in anyway

great value NOT

they do a great job giving the promonade a face lift then teh pleasure beech puts people especialy families of going

greedy grabbing sods

apparently when the woman who owns the 'pleasure beach' inhertied it, it was in her dads will that she couldnt sell it, so she changed the name to get around that from 'Blackpool Pleasure Beach' to 'Pleasure Beach Blackpool' now she can sell it whenever she wants

Restless 13-08-2009 07:31

Re: Blackpool .....Just like the old days.

mum had a trolley with the stuff for the day to have a good time in blackpool. Dinner, Drinks, Towels ETC they wouldnt let her on the pleasure beach... Think they thought she was a terrorist or something
