Good excuse not to buy Christmas presents

It would certainly provide you with an unusual excuse...'Sorry didn't buy any presents
I was told the world was going to end on the 21st of December'
My response would be....'That gave you three days to find something when it didn't' :D

Yes I know I had three days before xmas and I would have bought it, but, the post office was inundated with last minute gifts to deliver from others like me.
I thought sod it, I wouldn't normally have sent her anything anyway.

The day after my monthly pay-day. Perhaps I will have to get some special whiskey

I'm panicking! I can't find anything on our Christmas holiday insurance which covers me for the 'End of the World'!
Should I claim for a broken leg now and spend the money on shortbread, good whiskey and cigarettes?
After all, the end of the world could last a long time.

Second thought-
Thinks- what the heck do I need shortbread for?

This may be just coincidence, but -
Terence McKenna's Timewave zero (based on I Ching) happens to 'end' then too :D

Didn't he tweak it a bit to make it end then? According to Wikipedia:

McKenna expressed "novelty" in a computer program which purportedly produces a waveform known as "timewave zero" or the "timewave". "Timewave zero" is a numerological formula that purports to calculate the ebb and flow of "novelty", defined as increase over time in the universe's interconnectedness, or organized complexity. Based on McKenna's interpretation of the King Wen sequence of the I Ching, the graph appears to show great periods of novelty corresponding with major shifts in humanity's biological and sociocultural evolution. He believed that the events of any given time are recursively related to the events of other times, and chose the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as the basis for calculating his end date of 16 November 2012. When he later discovered that the end of the 13th baktun in the Maya Calendar had been correlated by Western Maya scholars with December 21, not far from his own hypothesized end date, he decided that the Maya were more likely to be right on this subject and he adopted their end date.

I have been trying to plough through his Food of the Gods: The Search for the Original Tree of Knowledge - A Radical History of Plants, Drugs, and Human Evolution but found it hard going -still only a third of the way through.

A big 'novelty dip' is due tomorrow.
We will have to see whether some extreme event will match it.

You didn't get a shortbread biscuit this morning Simon, we were so busy talking aeroplanes and cars I forgot I had saved you some.
Anyway you did have a Blue Riband with your coffee.

You reminded me that the end of the world was due today but I am still nipping up to the chippy for my evening meal in a few minutes, hopefully I will have a house to come back to..
See you again soon.

I was looking forward to MargaretRs 'novelty dip'- a lollypop, plastic Batman, anything would have done.
But as usual she's let us down.
