Or would you just grab them and say 'Er dude, you stink'?!:D

What exactly is a nasty smell? Yes, a dirty body, yes an over zealous application of perfume, (especially if the body wasn't clean in the first place).
Like everything else in life we all define smells differently.
Maybe your friend moved away because she couldn't stand your smell?
Life is strange!

:p

Eau de Railway eh? Less
All about tolerance and conditioning. ;)

Mind you sometimes in the reference room at the Library I do detect that whiff of " Melange of P and Parkin"
The Librarian defo' has a cover up spray.

No, to be honest I think the dirty smelly folk have cast iron immune systems.
When everyone else on the bus has the sniffles he is smiling and fighting fit...maybe even the bug don't like the smell of him.

Well, there are some stinks that you can never forget...the smell of burnt flesh(I was once sent to do the final offices for a chap who had perished in a house fire)...the smell of melaena stools...unforgettable.
The smell of fungating breast cancer....horrible.
The smell of a tramps unwashed smelly feet...they had not seen soap and water for so long, that his toe nails had grown right into the soles of these smelly boots.

Crusty gussets are not very pleasant either.

That said, most of these people could not help the way they smelt...but it is something different to neglect personal hygiene to such an extent that you become offensive to your fellow workers/colleagues/general public.

Our Susie once left a vac packed lobster in the boot of my car. She came back from Aldi unpacked the car and said " I must have left that lobster at the checkout!!"
I wish !!
3 weeks later halfway down the M5, me "what's that pong"
Well the vac-pack had "blown" with all the fluids soaking into the boot lining.

I now know what it must have been like to be an embalmer in ancient Egypt.

Fortunately my very good friend the fishmonger came up with a potion to clean it or she would not now be lovingly referred to as "the current Mrs P" ;)

The most gut wrenching smell I have ever experienced was gangrene.

It was that rotting flesh death smell.

....and to think that as I left school I seriously considered applying for a job as an assistant in a Preston pathology lab.

I always carry a bottle of impulse in my bag, before now i have been known to spray it in the direction of offending smells if i came across any whilst traveling, soap and deodorant cost pennies, for goodness sake people, please go out and buy some

Is impulse a perfume?

Sweating is a way of ridding the body of toxic waste. Reduce the toxic food intake and you reduce the smell.

I don't agree that using chemicals to mask a smell is a good idea.
By absorption, those chemicals end up inside you and increase your body load of toxins.

PS Natural soap and deodorants are available if you take the trouble to find out what is in the ingredients

I don't even want to begin to think about the things some of the folk I knew of, were putting into their bodies... I know I have an enchanced sense of smell too. My nose often detects things that leaves others looking at me with puzzlement, saying "Wha?!? I can't smell anything!" My partner is one of them unfortunately-which drives me nuts.

I kind of have to (or find it easiest) to use the more natural soaps anyway, to avoid animal ingredients among other reasons.
Weleda deodorants are the best I ever found though I've used crystal sticks in the past, and if I need a new one when away from home the co-op have one (if they still do it)!

He looks unkempt with greasy looking hair and jacket.
No-one tells him, but people do move away from him.

Last week he came and sat in the seat right in front of us...himself got up and loudly said I'm not sitting here with that smelly fellow(or words to that effect with some expletives in).......and we both moved to the front of the bus.
I do not know how this man cannot be aware that he reeks, because this happens every week(though most people do not make loud comments about the reason they are moving).
I have even seen ladies using body sprays to freshen the air around themselves.
Me......well, I have a compact of solid perfume in my bag for such eventualities.....a little of this smeared under my nose, and I can't smell him at all.

What gets me is maybe these sorts of folk are aware that they reek, but don't care. Or think they might do but aren't that bothered if they do.

People must get used to it over time.. I've been in the houses of folk and the whole house reeks, but they're accustomed and don't notice it-I guess they get used to the scent of their partner as well!

Putting perfume or deodorant on over dirt does cause a hideous stench I agree!
Lol yes we all have our own scent. With that particular lass though I knew it wasn't just me-as I detailed in the blog her partner (who I didn't know well, at all!) confided in me over this issue. I did feel a bit sorry for him.
She smelt sour, foisty-like some sort of festering infection.

Yes if there's such a reason for it, it's excusable. I am glad this page doesn't have a scratch and sniff section!

When I was young my Dad's involvement in developing new angling techniques exposed me to some horrific scents.
I was actually physically sick once after he shoved a bottle of 'crab essence' under my nose!

I remember years ago there was a woman who was regularly in our company, the problem was she had very bad BO, one of the other ladies in our group actually told her on one of those double headed trips you ladies like when your out. The next time we saw her she smelt like basket of rose petals.

As an angler I know there's some iffy scents out there, what's even worse is when your horrible hound decides to go & roll is some putrefying fish carcass, then comes padding back well pleased with his hideous mongy self to share his new fragrance.

Lol I feel sorry for the other woman who had to tell her.

You've reminded me-a friend of mine is in charge of a team in an office. He was once asked to tell a chap that he stank of BO and the other staff were finding it offensive. My friend being a nicey nicey sort of chap, didn't want to come right out with it so he befriended this character, having breaks with him, taking lunches with him, taking extra time for a chat etc. And then one day breaking the news. The guy was mortified and told my friend how grateful he was to be told and how sorry he was.

The following day said chap came to work as usual and my friend said you could smell the cologne at the other end of the corridor, he'd had a shave, had a bag full of sprays and an air freshener for his desk, obviously proper anxious about this problem he hadn't known he had.

In time, the same member of staff who had told my friend to have words, came back complaining that the guy still stank, and asking him if he'd actually had words with him. He was asked to repeat the name.....

Yep, he'd got the wrong guy. The next day a lot of grovelling was done as my friend had to tell the chap 'I got it wrong dude, you don't smell!'...

I've got that familiar scent stuck up my nose now :D
Kya has never done that, thankfully, although she does like to find putrid puddles to sit in-that's not pleasant either!

Re: People who smell horrible?

Thinking about it, in days gone by if we had a minger in the ranks he was introduced to a reggie bath (Regimental bath) the offending ming bag was dunked into a bathtub fully clothed, copious amounts of water & cleaning agents were added, the offending article was then scrubbed with bask brooms, taken to the vehicle wash down & hosed down to remove the remainder of the soap/shampoo/washing powder etc, then marched to the unit bar & presented to the masses as a shiny new trooper. Needless to say it was very seldom someone would re-offend. :)

Try it nowadays & you'd probably get locked up for breaching their Hummin' rights. :(

To be honest SM it had got so bad, that this particular woman, my mates wife actually, had, had enough, having to sit next to this woman night after night when she went out for the night. especially when the woman herself hadn't a clue she had a problem
