This didn't happen with the old threepenny bits so what makes you think it will happen with the new pound coins.
According to recent reports 3% of pound coins in circulation are fake.

Correction - that should read 3%.
Didn't spot that sneaky zero until it was too late.

According to this I've 2 fake £1 coins in my pocket 'right now'
Counterfeit One Pound Coins | The Royal Mint

Will these criminal masterminds not just focus their efforts on another coin, say 50p-£2 coin or on notes?
I'm pretty sure it won't be long before we see snide versions of this new "most secure in the world" one.

Coin mechanisms tend to have a limited life anyway.I assume machines mechs will just be replaced as they are due. Like less said some machines are easy to configure for new coinage - it's something that happens from time to time, so good designers probably factor it in.
I kind of like this new one,it's quirky and as long as it's still bulky like the old one "it's all good" as they say.

It's not due out until 2017, so they might as well call it a 50p as that's all it will be worth by then!!: :rolleyes::rolleyes:

New £1 coin

Coin mechs lives, are designed for the life of the machine they are in.
They can be configured according to the Country they are working in.
A coin mech designed for an American made pin table for example, can be configured to take any coins from any Country.

Do you remember DinG, pre euro when the old shilling (10p) coin worked in the deutsche mark slots over there? ;) Great for phoning home on the cheap (allegedly)

Still do in some places.

Fi'pences DtP :D Fag machines, phone boxes & any other Germing vending machines that took the old DM. Happy days! The troops would come back from leave with about 20 Quids worth of Fi'pences & flood the place. :)

Phone home or buy up all the smokes from the machines around the camps & down town, then flog 'em to the krautlings for "Proper money" at a discount of course, we weren't totally mercenary, paid for the Beer right enough, but we'd end up getting read the riot act by the GSM & the Monkeys. :o
